Compensation: $24 - $28.50/hr

Our client is a U.S.-based manufacturer that designs and produces high-quality, precision-engineered products utilizing advanced CNC technology. They are seeking a CNC Programmer to join their manufacturing engineering team. This is a direct-hire, permanent opportunity well-suited for a technically savvy professional with experience programming CNC routers, particularly for 2D flat sheet wood and metal applications. The role supports efficient production by creating, maintaining, and optimizing CNC programs used across the manufacturing floor.

Job Description

The CNC Programmer is responsible for developing and maintaining CNC programs based on engineering specifications and manufacturing requirements. This role partners closely with engineering and production teams to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and quality in CNC machining operations.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Programming CNC routers and other CNC manufacturing equipment for wood and sheet material processing
  • Utilizing CNC programming software (such as MasterCAM or similar) to generate accurate machine programs
  • Analyzing drawings, CAD data, and design specifications to determine machining sequences, tooling, feeds, and speeds
  • Establishing machine reference points and defining cutting paths
  • Performing calculations related to dimensions, radii, curvatures, and machining operations
  • Creating geometric layouts and simulations to validate CNC programs against CAD models
  • Writing setup documentation, instruction sheets, and cutter/tool lists
  • Supporting production by troubleshooting and revising CNC programs when issues are identified
  • Observing and verifying CNC programs during trial runs on production equipment
  • Developing efficient production routes by selecting appropriate equipment for required operations
  • Assisting with process documentation and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Providing cross-functional support and participating in cross-training as business needs require

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in CNC programming, machining, or manufacturing environments
  • Hands-on experience programming CNC equipment (router or milling experience acceptable)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and CAD files
  • Working knowledge of CNC programming principles and machining processes
  • Understanding of material characteristics, tolerances, and variances (wood and/or metal)
  • Proficiency with basic math, algebra, and geometry as applied to manufacturing
  • Strong problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MasterCAM (preferred but not required)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar CAD software
  • Experience in wood-processing or flat-sheet CNC environments
  • Exposure to manufacturing engineering or process improvement initiatives
