Job Title: Substitute School Health Technician

Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County (ACADC) Lone Tree, CO

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Dean of Operations

Work Hours/Days: As needed, School days, Monday through Friday,

Position Summary:

The School Health Aide at Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools provides essential health and wellness support to students, helping maintain a safe, healthy learning environment that aligns with Ascent's commitment to excellence in classical education. This role involves administering basic first aid, managing health records, and collaborating with staff and families to address students' health needs in a supportive and professional manner.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide first aid and health services to students and staff, adhering to established school protocols and best practices
  • Administer medications and care within the limits of training and certification, as authorized by the Health Services Coordinator
  • Assist with emergency medical situations, stabilize students as appropriate, and follow emergency response procedures, including notifying parents/guardians and emergency services when necessary
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student health records, including immunizations, allergy information, and health plans
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations
  • Support students with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or severe allergies by administering daily health plans and medications under guidance
  • Communicate with parents or guardians regarding students' health concerns, illnesses, or injuries
  • Provide information and guidance on school health policies
  • Work alongside teachers and school staff to promote health and wellness initiatives aligned with the classical education model
  • May assist in delivering basic health education to students on topics such as hygiene, safety, and general wellness
  • Monitor and maintain the health office's supplies and equipment, ensuring availability of essential items for daily operations and emergencies
  • Partner with teachers, staff, and administration to support students' overall well-being and accommodate any health-related needs in the classroom as appropriate
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations
  • Employees are responsible for completing and documenting all training assigned by their direct supervisor in a timely and accurate manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant, or equivalent certification is preferred
  • Experience in health care, first aid, or school health environments is preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and handle confidential information
  • Employees are expected to demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required; additional certifications may be required based on state regulations
  • Professional, calm, and empathetic, with a strong commitment to the health and well-being of students
  • Ability to support Ascent's mission and classical education values by fostering a nurturing and orderly health environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move quickly and respond to various locations within the school building. This includes walking, standing, bending, and occasional crouching or kneeling, particularly when administering first aid or assisting students on the floor
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds independently, and occasionally assist with moving students or equipment in emergency situations. This may include lifting or supporting students with mobility issues
  • Capacity to handle periods of standing and moving throughout the school day, along with the ability to maintain energy and focus during busy times or health-related incidents
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Proficiency in handling small medical items and administering medication. Precise manual dexterity is essential for tasks like applying bandages, administering medication, and using medical equipment
