Schedule for this role is 6am - 3pm, Monday through Thursday and 6am - noon, Friday.
Primary Objective of Position
To convert various types of products in a high quality and timely manner while working in compliance to the Work Instructions, CAD drawings, and product Travelers, plus minimizing wasted materials and/or time. Comply with the policies of company systems, Lean Manufacturing, and quality at the source.
Major Areas of Accountability
- Effectively and efficiently set up and operate Flexographic presses to a high standard, which will require proficiency in all the following areas:
- Anilox roll characteristics
- Characteristics of varnished and other precoating’s and overcoating’s
- Rotary tooling utilization and matrix removal techniques
- Ink match including spectrophotometer and pantone book.
- Registration up to six colors, if necessary, per CAD specifications.
- Precision mounting of printing plates
- Precision “tuning” of print rollers, print plates, doctor blades, and meter rollers
- Precision “tuning” of dies to facilitate the matrix removal process while maintaining minimal liner strike, maintaining close registration of several dies simultaneously
- Ability to determine optimum web path for most efficient production
- Ability to utilize all previous characteristics in unison and at press-run speeds.
- Collect and document all necessary data, i.e., SPC – statistical process control, material lot tracking, production checklists, and other required or communicated production information.
- Perform and document the daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance as per Work Instructions.
- Comply with schedules as defined by production queue, group leaders or production supervisors. Analyze problems, bottlenecks or manpower issues to proactively keep production throughput highly efficient while meeting or exceeding Computype goals and customer expectations. Provide accurate and timely communication or shift pass-down to co-workers, group leads and/or supervisors regarding issues on product, equipment, throughput, and quality.
- Use Computype’s Business System to accurately record production throughput, labor hours, material usage, inventory and/or quality issues.
- Remain current on all policies and procedures relating to specific products or equipment. Comply with all safety regulations and polices as defined in the Computype Safety Policy, with special attention to the weightlifting restrictions, and the personal protection necessary while running production or working in Flex.
- Identify and/or implement processes, equipment and/or quality improvement techniques. Keep communications open between the support groups of Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance on production issues, and assist them, if necessary, in the development of new or revised products or processes.
- May provide process and/or equipment training for new or less experienced employees. Working in cooperation with the group leader and/or supervisor, may provide work direction for shift-change personnel. Practice and train the concepts of Lean Manufacturing and quality at the source on the production floor.
- May be involved in time and efficiency studies related to specific jobs, product or equipment.
- Perform other tasks/duties as apparent or assigned, self-motivated and self-directed.
Requirements:
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of three years printing machine operating experience or one year Flex printing experience including:
- Knowledge of inks and how they respond to various poly and paper substrates
- Set up and running as many as four colors in register combined with die cutting, slitting and matrix removal in line
- Developed knowledge of ink pH and viscosity to ensure proper color match and coverage
- Applying over- or under-laminates to substrates being imaged or die cut
- Ability to apply good computer and good math skills to job.
- Ability to understand and follow written and/or verbal instructions; ability to read and understand CAD drawings (if applicable); have legible penmanship, good communication skills (verbal and written) and be detail oriented.
- Complete knowledge of production measurement devices, i.e., SPC measurements and documentation, eye piece, calipers, customer specifications; understand and practice the concept of Lean Manufacturing and quality at the source.
- Ability to comply with Computype’s safety policy relative to lifting requirements/restrictions – lift heavy rolls of material of heavy equipment dies, a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Flexible in working overtime when necessary and changing shift hours as needed to meet production schedules

Compensation
The hiring base pay range for this position is listed below, exclusive of fringe benefits or other compensation. If you are hired, your final salary will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we will also consider the internal equity of our current employees. Hiring at this base pay range allows for future and continued salary growth.
$20.00 - $30.00 per hour base
