Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a Surgical Services position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 2 years of Level 1 or 2 trauma OR experience and proficiency with robotic surgery systems.
Details
- Hospital-based OR setting with 10 operating rooms running Monday–Friday, 0700–1500, supported by 20 Pre-Op bays and 14 PACU bays
- Surgical patient population including Urology, Neuro, Ortho, Robotic, General, Podiatry, ENT, Gynecology, and Trauma cases
- Patient ratios: OR 1:1, Pre-Op 1:2, PACU Phase I 1:1 or 1:2 based on acuity, PACU Phase II 1:2–3
- EMR: Epic (candidates without Epic experience may still be considered with manager approval); Omnicell and Alaris also in use
- 8-hour variable shifts, 40 hours per week
- On-call required: ideally one overnight per week (1900–0700) and every 3rd weekend (Friday 1500–Monday 0700); schedule is subject to change based on department needs
- On-call sleep accommodations available in the Pre-Op/PACU area or break room; 15-minute response time required
- Weekend rotation every 3rd weekend
- Floating may be required to Endo and Pre-Op/PACU/Floor; if floated outside of peri-op services, role is in a helping-hands capacity
Requirements
- Active RN license — South Dakota license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of OR experience in a Level 1 or Level 2 trauma center
- Proficiency in Ortho-Trauma procedures (ORIF, external fixation, amputations), Neuro (craniotomy, spinal), General Surgery, and Robotics (Da Vinci XI, SP, and DV5)
- Surgical experience in a tertiary care center required
- Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Perform circulating and scrub roles across a diverse range of surgical specialties in a high-volume OR environment
- Support team includes RN/First Assist/Surgical Tech, Nurse Clinician, CRN, Service Line Leads, HUC, Scheduler, Preference Card Analyst, OR Techs, and Anesthesia in the OR; Pre-Op/PACU team includes RNs, Nurse Aides, Nurse Clinician, and CRNs
- Orientation is approximately 1 week
- Coverage required for 2 out of 4 major holidays
- Time off requests require manager approval; low-census days may be taken voluntarily without pay
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Free parking available on site
- First-time travelers are not accepted without manager approval
- Former permanent staff must wait a full year before returning as a travel nurse
