Nursing degree, active registered nurse (RN) license and minimum 1+ years OR RN experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Advance your nursing career supporting surgical excellence as a skilled Surgical First Assist RN in a dynamic, high-acuity Operating Room environment. This contract opportunity offers flexible day shifts (choose from 8-, 10-, or 12-hour options), with scheduling preference toward end-of-week days. On-call requirements include one weekday call and one weekend shift twice per 6-week period. Enjoy time off on national holidays, with possible call coverage only as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Active VA RN license and RNFA certification (required prior to submission)
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Surgical First Assist
  • Independent experience with Da Vinci Robot procedures is essential
  • Ability to scrub at end-of-day cases highly preferred
  • Prior travel nursing experience is a plus
  • Strong and versatile competency across specialties: robotics, spine, orthopedics, laparoscopic, general, GYN, vascular, ENT, and urology
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
  • Additional BSMH credentialing required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, create and revise individualized care plans, and evaluate outcomes
  • Safely administer medications and adhere to clinical protocols in line with leading industry standards
  • Coordinate perioperative care, acting as a resource to the surgical team and ensuring optimal patient safety
  • Prepare, operate, and ensure maintenance of specialized equipment including the Da Vinci robot and microscope
  • Anticipate and meet the needs of the scrub nurse; manage sterile packs and accurate recordkeeping
  • Provide comprehensive pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care, including discharge planning and patient education
  • Assist with procedures (e.g., Foley, prepping, IV insertion), and support anesthesia as needed
  • Uphold infection control and universal precaution standards
