Position Summary for the Box Truck Driver / Shipping Clerk at Altek:

The Box Truck Driver / Shipping Clerk is responsible for transportation of Altek product, materials, and/or supplies to and from specified locations by performing the following essential duties. When deliveries are not being made (approx. 40% - 60% of the work week), the driver will perform duties related to Shipping, such as packing and/or may be assigned other duties in another department.


The Essential Duties and Responsibilities of The Box Truck Driver / Shipping Clerk are described below:

  • Responsible for understanding and following company and manufacturing guidelines/procedures
  • Responsible for following established safety rules & 6S

Box Truck Driver

  • Load, unload, prepare, inspect, and operate the delivery vehicle
  • Ensure that deliveries have been signed and delivered to the correct recipient
  • Complete logs and reports as required by DOT and/or otherwise specified
  • Follow DOT regulations and safety standards
  • Keep vehicle clean and maintained at all times

Shipping Clerk

  • Pack, seal, label and affix postage to prepare materials for shipping
  • Determine shipping method for assemblies, using knowledge of shipping procedures and rates
  • Record shipment data for reporting, accounting and record keeping purposes
  • Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock

Knowledge and Skill Required to be an Assembler at Altek

  • Good eyesight and color vision with or without corrective lenses– may be subject to vision testing
  • Good mechanical ability
  • Ability to read and follow directions
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma, GED or other equivalent.
  • Must have a valid Connecticut driver’s license
  • Must have or be able to obtain a DOT Medical Card prior to hire.
  • Must have a good driving record with no traffic violations. An MVR will be requested from the DMV as part of the background check process.
  • Experience driving a box truck

Working Conditions

  • Lifting, pushing, pulling of materials and product up to 50 pounds
  • Prolonged sitting while driving / or packing materials.
  • May be subject to various weather & road conditions.
