Title: Senior Accountant
Client: Federal Agency
Location: Washington, D.C.
Clearance: Public Trust or be able to obtain one

Work Schedule: 8 am – 5 pm
Work Day: Monday – Friday
We seek a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to provide expert leadership and oversight in all federal accounting and financial management areas. This role requires a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise in federal guidelines, superior leadership abilities, and a proven track record of managing complex accounting operations. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert who can guide a team and ensure strict compliance with all regulatory standards.Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Supervision: Provide first-level supervision and leadership to a accounting analyst team, including assigning work, providing guidance, conducting performance reviews, and fostering professional development.
- Financial Operations Management: Oversee all aspects of operational accounting, including managing multi-year and no-year appropriations, and ensure proper accounting for various types of funding (e.g., O&M, Procurement).
- Technical Compliance & Reporting: Ensure all financial practices and reports comply with the CFO Act, OMB Regulations, GAAP, FASAB standards, GAO policies, and DHS Financial Management procedures. Prepare and review complex financial statements and reports.
- Systems Expertise: Utilize Oracle Systems and other financial systems to manage data, generate reports, and ensure the integrity of financial information. Demonstrate mastery of the USSGL and Treasury Account Symbols.
- Policy & Procedure Adherence: Maintain a thorough understanding of and ensure adherence to policies from the Department of the Treasury’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service and other governing bodies.
- Strategic Analysis: Apply advanced knowledge of budgetary and proprietary accounting principles to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide strategic recommendations to management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
- At least 8 years of experience in a team lead or first-level supervisory role.
- Demonstrated specialized experience in federal operational accounting or auditing.
- Deep, practical knowledge of Federal financial systems, policies, and standards, including:
- CFO Act, OMB Regulations, GAAP, FASAB, and GAO (Yellow Book) standards.
- USSGL and Treasury Account Symbols.
- Experience with multi-year and no-year appropriations.
- High proficiency with Oracle Financial Systems.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
