Purpose:

This position is a member of the ranked faculty whose duties require effectiveness in teaching, a
commitment to staying current with their discipline and appropriate pedagogies, and a willingness to
serve the department, school, college, and University. The teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and include serving as an academic advisor and serving on committees. This description may not include all the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this position.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Teaching (0-80%): Teaching activities include classroom instruction, directing projects, assisting with student research and internships, and student-teaching supervision. Classroom instruction may be undergraduate and/or graduate lecture/seminar courses in the field and/or department to which
assigned. All faculty are expected to mentor and advise students on their development, careers, and
post-graduate options. Participate in the development/design and revision of curriculum offered.

Research/Scholarly Work (10-90%): Pursue scholarly research and publication, and/or professional practice in the area of teaching emphasis. Full Professors are expected to maintain a program of research/scholarly work characterized by distinction as evidenced by national and international recognition, significant contributions to the field. Results of research/scholarly work should be published, disseminated in peer-reviewed journals, and/or presented at conferences or symposiums.

Service/Extension (10-90%): Participate actively as a member of the university community through service to the student, the community, or the university by participating in such things as administrative committees, search committees, university governance activities, and student advising.

Other Duties & Responsibilities: Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by Supervisor,
Department Chair, Dean, and/or Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Qualifications:

Required Teacher Certification:
Current Missouri Teaching Certification in Physical Education K-12 is required. Applicants with Licensure to teach Physical Education in another state may be considered upon review of their licensure reciprocity and will be required to obtain Missouri Certification.

Minimum Educational Qualifications:
Master's Degree or higher from an accredited university in Physical Education, Health Education,
Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Health Promotion, Sport Management, or a closely aligned field to Health, Physical Education or Wellness.

Preferred Educational Qualifications:
Terminal Degree from an accredited university in Physical Education, Sport Management, or a closely
related field to Health, Physical Education or Wellness. First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification.

Professional Experience:
The successful candidate will provide evidence of a background detailing student-success. A minimum of five or more years of practical experience in a physical education classroom, or sports management setting is preferred. Higher Education Experience is not required but preferred.

Content Expertise:
The ideal candidate will possess content knowledge and practical experience in sports
administration/management, physical education, and instruction of First Aid/CPR/AED. Physical
Education "Generalists" or candidates with diverse experiences that have expertise and/or abilities to
teach a wide various content areas and courses within the Department of Health, Physical Education and Wellness or within the School of Education will be given priority.

Potential Course Assignments:
The ideal candidate will be expected to fill current course instructional needs. Potential courses may
include, but could vary based on expertise and departmental needs:
• Personal & Community Health
• CPR, First Aid, & Safety
• Instruction of Movements and Rhythms
• Psychology & Sociology of PE & Sport
• Philosophical & Historical Issues in Sports
• Sport Event Organization & Management
• Organizational Leadership in Sports & Athletics
• Global Sports Business
