This position is for a Surgical Lead and System Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery within our organization, focusing on strategic direction, clinical management, and academic contributions at a newly established Digestive Disease Center. The role encompasses mentoring surgical staff, managing clinical operations, promoting research and educational initiatives, and attracting new faculty members within an integrated healthcare framework. Candidates must possess an MD or DO degree, be board-certified in Colon and Rectal Surgery, and exhibit strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
Our organization is seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking surgeon to take on the role of Surgical Lead for a Newly Established System-wide Digestive Disease Center and System Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery. This unique opportunity allows a proactive leader to influence the future of gastrointestinal surgical care in a collaborative and innovative setting. This role provides an excellent platform for leadership, professional development, research, recruitment of additional surgeons, and active participation in our ACGME-accredited Colorectal Fellowship Program.
Key Responsibilities
In your capacity as Surgical Lead for the Digestive Disease Center and System Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery, you will provide strategic guidance, manage clinical operations, spearhead faculty recruitment, and cultivate a culture of excellence in patient care, research, and education. Reporting to the System Chair of the Surgical Institute, your duties will include:
- Strategic Leadership: Formulate and execute a comprehensive strategic plan to enhance the department's clinical services, research projects, and educational activities across the network, which extends from Western PA to Erie and Western New York.
- Clinical Oversight: Supervise the clinical functions of the colorectal surgery division, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and compliance with best practices.
- Physician Leadership: Guide and nurture a team of proficient colorectal surgeons, promoting teamwork and professional development.
- Research & Innovation: Promote and facilitate research initiatives, utilizing the department's robust research framework and partnerships with academic institutions.
- Community Engagement: Act as a representative for the department and organization within both the medical and wider community.
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree with board certification in Colon and Rectal Surgery.
- Significant experience as a practicing colorectal surgeon with a demonstrated history of effective leadership and management.
- Proven capability to lead and mentor teams.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Strong dedication to patient care, research, and education.
- Eligibility for Pennsylvania medical licensure is required.
- DEA and CPR certification must be obtained prior to employment.
- Academic appointment at the level of Associate or Full Professor of Surgery is required.
