Job Title: Distribution Center General Manager
Location: McDonough, Georgia (onsite)
Job Overview:
As the General Manager in our Distribution Center, you will oversee all aspects of warehouse operations, ensuring efficiency, profitability, and compliance with retailer requirements of major retailers including Walmart and Amazon. This role is responsible for strategic planning, team leadership, operational excellence, and financial management to ensure smooth fulfillment processes for over 1000 customers, giving leadership to a team over 100 employees in our 460k sq. ft. facility reporting directly to the EVP Supply Chain and Operations. Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Planning & Leadership
- Develop and execute warehouse strategies aligned with company growth objectives.
- Oversee multi-departmental operations, including shipping, receiving, inventory management, logistics, and customer service.
- Lead continuous process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and meet customer SLAs.
- Optimize labor utilization by proactive labor planning and management.
- Drive warehouse technology adoption, including ERP, WMS, and data analytics tools.
2. Warehouse Operations & Logistics Management
- Ensure on-time and accurate fulfillment for Walmart, Amazon, and 1000+ wholesale customers.
- Work closely with the Shipping and Receiving Manager to optimize workflows.
- Oversee freight, carrier selection, and logistics contracts for cost-effective and timely deliveries.
- Monitor warehouse KPIs, ensuring adherence to customer order accuracy standards.
3. Financial & Budgetary Oversight
- Develop and manage the warehouse operations budget, including labor, shipping costs, and capital expenditures.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives, including labor efficiency, freight optimization, and automation together with Finance Department.
- Ensure profitability by balancing operational efficiency with quality and compliance.
4. Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure all operations meet OSHA, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain compliance with Walmart’s Retail Link, Amazon Vendor Central, and other customer shipping guidelines.
- Implement audit processes to track errors, damages, and returns while ensuring corrective actions.
5. Team Leadership & Workforce Management
- Lead and mentor department managers, including Shipping, Receiving, Inventory, and Operations Managers.
- Develop employee training programs to improve warehouse efficiency and safety.
- Set performance KPIs and conduct regular performance reviews for leadership and warehouse staff.
6. Technology & Process Optimization
- Oversee ERP, WMS, and automation systems to enhance efficiency.
- Work with IT and MIS teams to integrate analytics for better forecasting and inventory planning.
- Drive continuous process improvements, leveraging AI, automation, and data analytics to optimize warehouse workflows.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Order Fulfillment Accuracy: % of error-free orders.
- On-Time Shipping Compliance: Adherence to Walmart OTIF, Amazon SLAs.
- Warehouse Efficiency: Cost per case, picking efficiency, and labor productivity.
- Inventory Accuracy: % variance in stock levels vs. system data.
Operational Cost Reduction: Freight, labor, and process efficiency savings - OSHA, safety, and regulatory compliance
Skills & Qualifying Experience:
- Bachelor’s in Business, Supply Chain or related field required
- Additional certifications in Six Sigma, Lean, APICS, etc. preferred
- 10 years of progressive warehouse leadership experience required. Wholesale distribution and Ecommerce experience preferred
- Proficient use of ERP system and RF scanners required
- Experience in a “manual” DC (one that does not have a WMS) highly preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required
- Demonstrated success leading strong teams
- Knowledge of production and quality processes
- Prior experience writing SOP’s
- Past Walmart experience preferred
- Primary work schedule is first shift, but flexible schedule to sometimes include evenings and weekends when needed
