Position
We are seeking a Molecular Laboratory Technician to join our new Austin team. This is a full-time, W2 position with benefits.

The role will start remote while our Austin laboratory (near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport) is finalized, and will transition to onsite (onsite work required). The start date is flexible, and candidates available to begin as soon as possible are encouraged to apply.

Technicians will perform molecular testing (qPCR/real-time PCR, PCR, RT-PCR, NGS), prepare reagents, ensure quality control, and support daily lab operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and passionate about science and healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular testing (PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, NGS) following SOPs and lab protocols
  • Prepare reagents, controls, and samples with strict adherence to quality standards
  • Record, analyze, and interpret test results; promptly report abnormalities
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment
  • Perform quality control and proficiency testing
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory requirements
  • Maintain organized documentation for audits and inspections
  • Prioritize tasks to meet turnaround times
  • Collaborate with lab staff and communicate testing updates/issues
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory workspace
  • Assist with training of new or temporary staff as needed
  • Support internal audits, continuous improvement, and other special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing personnel (42 CFR 493.1489):

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology
  • OR Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology
  • OR 60 semester hours (with at least 24 in biology and chemistry) plus documented training in molecular biology (minimum 3 months) or an accredited clinical laboratory program

(Degrees in non-laboratory fields at any level are not accepted)

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience analyzing and resulting qPCR or real-time PCR in a clinical laboratory
  • Demonstrated ability to follow protocols and perform high-complexity testing under CLIA
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency
  • Reliable and punctual with strong time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer-based data entry
  • Clear communication and a teamwork mindset

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a molecular or clinical laboratory
  • Hands-on experience with PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, and/or NGS
  • Familiarity with CLIA/CAP regulations and quality systems
  • ASCP or similar certification
  • Experience with troubleshooting and maintaining lab equipment
  • Prior participation in lab inspections, audits, or validations

Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $22–$27/hour, DOE (set by hiring manager)
