Job Summary

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) provides direct and indirect care to patients in a behavioral health setting. This role supports the clinical team by assisting with patient monitoring, documentation, and therapeutic interactions to ensure a safe and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of nursing staff.
  • Take and record vital signs and monitor patient intake/output.
  • Assist with patient admissions and documentation.
  • Support physical examinations and collect specimens as needed.
  • Transport patients within the facility.
  • Orient new patients to unit routines and guidelines.
  • Assist patients with daily living activities, including hygiene needs.
  • Observe and report patient behavior and condition changes to nursing staff.
  • Build therapeutic relationships and engage patients in activities.
  • Respond to and assist during crisis situations.
  • Perform routine safety checks and maintain a secure environment.

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Combination schedule:
    • 2 shifts: 12-hour days (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
    • 2 shifts: 8-hour days (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Behavioral health / psychiatric care setting
  • No block scheduling

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with psychiatric or behavioral health patients (preferred within the last 2 years)
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and patient-centered environment
