Job Summary:
Stratus is seeking a Water/Wastewater Design Engineer I to join the Water Resources Team in Richmond, VA, Atlanta, GA, or Marietta, GA. This position focuses on gaining a foundational understanding of engineering practices, assisting with the preparation of design documents, and supporting senior engineers in the design and development process. The selected candidate will prepare detailed technical drawings, perform calculations, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that design solutions are accurate and compliant with industry standards.
Primary Essential Functions:
- Design and draft plans for municipal and private water distribution systems, including pipelines, valves, and pumping stations.
- Develop engineering drawings and specifications for wastewater collection systems, including gravity sewers, lift stations, and force mains.
- Design and analyze stormwater management systems, including detention/retention basins, culverts, and storm drains, to comply with local drainage criteria and environmental standards.
- Use AutoCAD and Civil 3D to create and modify engineering documents, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Conduct engineering calculations and analyses to ensure that designs are feasible, safe, and compliant with applicable codes and standards.
- Collaborate with other engineers and consultants to integrate systems and equipment into comprehensive engineering solutions.
- Research materials, technologies, and regulatory requirements to support the design process and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Participate in client and team meetings, presenting design updates and providing technical input on engineering solutions.
- Conduct site visits or inspections to gather data, evaluate project conditions, or assist with construction administration as needed.
- Assist in quality control by reviewing engineering deliverables for accuracy and adherence to project goals and company standards.

Knowledge
- Intermediate understanding of engineering principles, design processes, and construction methods.

- Proficiency in engineering software, such as AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit, or SolidWorks.

Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- 0-1 year of experience in engineering design or internship experience.
Preferred
- Experience with design software (AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit, SolidWorks) in an internship or academic setting.
- Engineer In Training (EIT) certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
- Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, telephones, and printers.
- Occasional light physical activity such as walking, standing, or carrying materials (up to 25 lbs.).
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, via video conferencing, over the phone, and through written communication.
