Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, active DHH teaching certification, and 1+ years Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
This opportunity is for an experienced Itinerant Teacher specializing in Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, based in Urbana, IL. This contract position focuses on providing specialized educational support to students with hearing impairments across various school settings within the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instruction tailored to the unique needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Collaborate with general education teachers, audiologists, speech therapists, and families to develop and implement effective learning plans
- Conduct assessments and monitor student progress regularly
- Provide support and training to staff and families on communication strategies and assistive technology
- Travel between multiple school locations within the assigned district to serve students in their least restrictive environments
Desired Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Experience delivering itinerant services in educational settings
- Strong knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken language support strategies
- Ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
Location: Urbana, Illinois (Itinerant - travel to multiple schools within the district)
