Position Title: Grant Writer
Reports To: Executive Director / CEO
(Wages depend on experience)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Grant Writer with proven success in securing funding opportunities across both Hawaii and Arizona. The Grant Writer will be responsible for identifying, developing, and submitting grant proposals that support the organization’s mission, programs, and services. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of regional funding priorities, state and federal grant processes, and private philanthropic opportunities specific to both states.
Key Responsibilities

Grant Research & Identification

Research and identify new public and private funding opportunities in Hawaii and Arizona.

Maintain a pipeline of potential grant prospects aligned with organizational priorities.

Proposal Development

Write compelling, high-quality proposals, letters of intent, and supporting documents.

Ensure all proposals are tailored to funder guidelines and requirements.

Collaborate with program staff to gather relevant data, statistics, and success stories.

Grant Management

Track submission deadlines, reporting requirements, and outcomes.

Manage and maintain accurate records of all grant activity in databases.

Support compliance by monitoring funded project goals, deliverables, and reporting timelines.

Relationship Building

Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as foundations and corporate funders.

Attend networking and grant-related events in Hawaii and Arizona as needed.

Collaboration & Communication

Partner with leadership and program staff to align funding opportunities with strategic priorities.

Prepare presentations, budgets, and financial documentation in collaboration with finance teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).

Minimum 3–5 years of proven grant writing experience, with successful awards in Hawaii and Arizona.

Strong knowledge of state funding agencies, foundations, and philanthropic networks in both states.

Demonstrated success in securing federal, state, and private foundation grants.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.

Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Proficiency with grant databases, research tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Skills

Familiarity with healthcare, housing, behavioral health, or community development grants.

Understanding of Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and Indigenous communities and priorities.

Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
