Job Description

This role operates and maintains aluminum and steel processing equipment and performs warehousing functions in a modern manufacturing environment. You support core goals of safety, quality, delivery, and continuous improvement while working in a clean, climate-controlled warehouse. You help ensure steel and aluminum materials are processed, stored, packaged, and moved accurately and efficiently to meet plant targets for safety, quality, and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain aluminum and steel processing equipment in a manufacturing setting.
  • Perform warehousing functions, including material handling, inventory-related tasks, and general warehouse operations.
  • Follow standardized work instructions for each process and maintain accountability for results in the assigned work area.
  • Use various mechanical and mobile equipment, such as forklifts and related material handling tools, as required by job tasks.
  • Conduct visual inspections of materials to identify defects, damage, or non-conformances.
  • Set up mechanical equipment according to specifications to ensure proper operation and product quality.
  • Package and unpack steel and aluminum coils for designated purposes, ensuring correct labeling and handling.
  • Use measuring instruments to verify that products meet specified requirements and quality standards.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines related to safety, quality, and operations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area, including mopping, sweeping, and general housekeeping as needed.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to support a cooperative, team-oriented work environment.
  • Pursue skill enhancement through ongoing training and development opportunities offered by the company.
  • Train and help develop other employees within the assigned area as skills and experience grow.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods while performing production and warehouse duties.
  • Lift or move up to approximately 30 pounds on an occasional basis, using proper lifting techniques.
  • Occasionally kneel, crouch, squat, or stoop to perform tasks safely and effectively.
  • Use hands and fingers to grasp tooling and handle or feel objects, tools, controls, and materials.
  • Reach with hands and arms to access equipment, materials, and controls during normal operations.
  • Use scan guns and scanning systems to support tracking, inventory, and production processes as needed.
  • Adhere to all safety requirements, including the use of hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, and cut-resistant gloves on the production floor and in the warehouse.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts and remain aware of surroundings to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as directed or assigned to support overall plant operations and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in warehouse or production environments with material handling responsibilities.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts and other mobile material handling equipment safely.
  • Experience or strong comfort working with metals, including steel or aluminum, in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.
  • Ability to use scan guns and scanning systems to support inventory and production processes.
  • Demonstrated positive attitude and willingness to support team goals.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple items simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others in a group environment.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in English.
  • Basic math skills to perform measurements, counts, and simple calculations accurately.
  • Basic computer skills to perform data entry and interact with production or inventory systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate information and product compliance with specifications.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during the shift.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to grasp tooling and handle objects, tools, or controls safely.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms, and to occasionally kneel, crouch, squat, or stoop as required.
  • Sufficient vision capabilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, to safely and accurately perform job tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a warehouse, production, or manufacturing environment is beneficial.
  • Prior metal or coil handling experience, particularly with steel or aluminum, is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with inventory processes and scan gun usage is helpful.
  • Comfort working near moving mechanical equipment in a production setting.
  • Interest in continuous learning, training, and skill development.
  • Ability to train and mentor other team members as experience grows.
  • Openness to overtime and flexibility to cover other shifts when needed.
  • Comfort working mandatory overtime when required by production demands.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a very clean, climate-controlled warehouse and production facility, maintained at roughly 70 degrees year-round for comfort. The environment includes moving mechanical equipment and production machinery, with a moderate noise level typical of a manufacturing setting. Team members regularly work near these machines and must remain alert and safety-focused at all times. Appropriate safety equipment is mandatory on the production floor and in the warehouse, including hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, and cut-resistant gloves. The role requires standing or walking for extended periods and occasionally kneeling, crouching, squatting, or stooping. Work involves handling steel and aluminum coils and using mechanical and mobile equipment, scan guns, measuring instruments, and basic computer systems. Multiple shifts are available, including first and second shift, with 8+ hour workdays and the potential for mandatory daily overtime and weekend work based on production needs. Flexibility to cover other shifts when required is expected. The dress code emphasizes safety gear and practical attire suitable for a production and warehouse environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of PRINCETON, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $18.75/hr.
