Job Description

SpineSearch is partnering with a well-established private neurosurgery practice based in Nssau County, New York. They are seeking a skilled Neurosurgery Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join their team. The PA will work in collaboration with neurosurgeons to provide high-quality patient care in both inpatient and surgical settings. The role includes hospital rounding, first assist in the operating room, preoperative and postoperative patient management, and on-call responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform inpatient rounding, history and physical examinations, and progress notes.
  • Assist in the operating room as a first or second assist for neurosurgical procedures.
  • Manage preoperative and postoperative patient care in coordination with the neurosurgical team.
  • Perform bedside procedures such as wound care, drain removal, and suture/staple placement or removal.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including lab work, imaging studies, and other relevant evaluations.
  • Collaborate with attending neurosurgeons, residents, and hospital staff to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Educate patients and families about surgical procedures, treatment plans, and postoperative care.
  • Respond to hospital consults and coordinate patient transfers as needed.
  • Participate in on-call coverage as scheduled, responding to emergencies and inpatient needs.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Certification: Current NCCPA certification required.
  • Licensure: Active Physician Assistant license in NY or ability to obtain prior to start.
  • Experience: Prior neurosurgery, surgical required; new graduates with strong surgical interest are encouraged to apply.
  • Skills: Excellent clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Other: Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required for call coverage.
