HYLAN has an immediate opening for a Boring Machine Operator. HYLAN specializes in broadband, communications, and intelligent transport systems (ITS), distributed antenna systems (DAS), fiber optic network platforms and wireless solutions. Our expertise includes underground construction, specializing in all outside plant construction activities including new technologies such as micro trenching, microfiber blowing, directional drilling, auger and jack boring capabilities.
HYLAN invites you to consider a rewarding opportunity within our Sacramento CA or Long Beach CA office as a Boring Machine Operatorwithin the Construction Department working to accomplish company goals. As a Boring Machine Operator, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining boring machines to create holes, tunnels, or bores in various materials. This role requires a strong understanding of machine operation, safety protocols, and the ability to monitor and adjust the machine's performance for accurate and efficient results.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and prepare the boring machine for operation, including loading materials, tools, and ensuring proper alignment.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or work instructions to determine boring specifications and requirements.
- Adjust machine settings such as speed, feed rate, and depth of cut according to the material being bored and the desired outcome.
- Monitor the machine's operation to ensure it is running smoothly and making accurate cuts. Adjust as needed to maintain quality and precision.
- Inspect the finished workpieces to ensure they meet required specifications and tolerances.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the machine to ensure its proper functioning and longevity.
- Troubleshoot and address minor technical issues that may arise during operation.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols, wear appropriate protective gear and take necessary precautions to prevent accidents.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other team members to optimize production processes and achieve project goals.
- Keep accurate records of work performed, machine settings, and any maintenance activities.
- Continuously improve skills and knowledge related to machine operation, new technologies, and safety procedures.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training related to machining is a plus.
- Commercial Driver’s License – A required
- Previous experience operating boring machines or similar heavy machinery is preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machine operations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Knowledge of different types of materials and their machining characteristics.
- Attention to detail and precision to maintain quality and accuracy.
- Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot minor technical issues.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and follow instructions.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
This position is full-time with benefits. Candidates must be able to complete and pass a background check including a drug screen, and DOT physical.
