Position: Bartender

FLSA Designation: Non- Exempt 

Reports To: FOH Management

Position Description:

As a bartender you are responsible for serving beverages and food courteously and expediently. Responsible for the setup, maintenance, and operation of the bar in accordance with the standards of the Restaurant 

Essential Functions and Basic Duties:

  • Interacts with all guests in a professional, friendly and hospitable manner

  • Understands food and beverage menus, including ingredients, substitution options, and allergens

  • Consistently follows all recipes to restaurant standards while maintaining positive hospitality with guests seated at the bar

  • Uses menu knowledge to curate the guest experience by taking food and beverage orders and making recommendations to guests

  • Acknowledges fellow team members and regulars by their names

  • Exhibits positive, approachable body language

  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills with guests and co-workers

  • Function as a supportive team member during their shift

  • Monitors inventory of daily pars and high-use items and possesses understanding of drink mechanics and drink pricing

  • Mixes and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for the bar and dining room guests, adhering to house recipes

  • Responsible for the bar setup. Maintains daily par levels for all beverages and service items

  • Prepares garnishes for drinks and ensures their freshness

  • Accurately accounts for all sales, discounts, and promotions in the POS system according to company cash handling procedures

  • Responsible for cleanliness of the bar area and glassware

  • Complies with state alcohol requirements for alcohol servers

Specific Job Knowledge, skills, and abilities: 

  • English fluency

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, managers and staff

  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills to communicate positively

  • Familiarity with Aloha POS

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. 

  • Strong problem-solving and multi-tasking abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of beer styles and service

  • Advanced knowledge of wine styles and service

  • Advanced knowledge of distilled liquors

  • Training in mixology and classic cocktail making

  • Experience in high volume environments

  • Required to stand for long periods of time

  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  

  • The employee frequently is required to taste or smell.  

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Education, Certification & Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent and at least 21 years of age

  • Advanced knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits

  • Familiarity with standard drink recipes including specialty and classic cocktails

  • At least two years in a high-volume, full-service bar

  • Must possess required health and liquor service certifications per state law.
