Position Summary      

Amacon is currently looking for a Construction Project Engineer with experience in high rise and multifamily building construction to work on an innovative multi-tower condo development in downtown Denver. Reporting to the Project Manager, this position will provide Construction Administration for the project.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and Design Review: Review of construction plans, drawings, and specifications to ensure a compliance with the project requirements. Analyze and assess the feasibility of the design, identifying any potential issues or conflicts that may arise during construction.
  • Quality Control Inspections: Conduct regular inspections to ensure that construction activities comply with the approved plans, specifications, and quality standards. Verify that workmanship, materials, and installations meet the required quality criteria and promptly document, communicate and address any non-conformities or deficiencies.
  • Materials Testing and Approval: Oversee the testing and approval of construction materials. Coordinate with testing laboratories to schedule necessary tests on materials such as concrete, steel, and soil. Review test results, verify compliance, and approve materials for project use.
  • Contractor Coordination: Collaborate with subcontractors and construction teams on-site. Provide technical guidance and support, clarifying design details, specifications, and construction methods. Ensure effective communication and coordination between various trades and subcontractors to maintain construction progress.
  • Construction Admin: Coordinates the request for information (RFI) process, ensures RFIs are distributed to affected trades and maintains RFI logs and binders.  Manage project submittal process including submittal logs, contractor reviews for submittals; distribution and tracking of review process through final approval. Inputs and updates project schedule.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of daily construction activities. Record site inspections, test results, work progress, and any incidents or issues that occur on-site. Prepare reports and provide updates to the project management team and stakeholders as required. Performs general administrative and record keeping functions including the review and distribution of documentation; preparation of correspondence and meeting minutes, tracking of project milestones and deadlines, maintenance of files, logs, drawings and specifications.
  • Pre-Construction: Supports the subcontract management process through the tendering and awarding of work or supply materials and assistance with the review of documents and inquiries. Implements and maintains systems and procedures at project start-up including project controls, project billing and the cost accounting system, creates and maintains the project directory, job site trailer/office set up and master filing system.
  • Change Management: Assist in managing design changes or modifications during construction. Review change orders, assess their impact on the project, and provide technical advice on the implementation of changes. Coordinate with the project team to ensure proper documentation and communication of changes to all stakeholders.
  • Engineering Problem-solving: Play a key role in resolving technical issues and challenges on the construction site. Provide engineering solutions to address unforeseen conditions, design conflicts, or construction-related problems. Collaborate with the project team, including architects, engineers, and contractors, to find effective solutions.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support and guidance to construction crews and subcontractors. Answer questions, clarify technical specifications, and provide assistance to ensure that work is executed correctly and in accordance with engineering standards.
  • Closeout: Organize project close-out by preparing warranty package and requirements; collecting warranties and O&M manuals; creating turnover documents and assisting in demobilizing the site and archiving documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Completion of post secondary education in Engineering preferred
  • Experience. 1-2 years + related work experience
  • Strong computer background including experience with MS Word and Excel
  • Experience and familiarity with commercial construction methodology and practices in a general contracting environment
  • Effective communication skills, confident interacting with key contacts in verbal, written and electronic form.
  • Knowledge of main construction office processes: project set up; subcontract management; change orders; RFIs (request for information); lien holdbacks; closeout.
  • Capable of responding to project stakeholder requests in typical situations, understanding client needs and offering assistance and advice to them on standard practical issues.
  • Ability to identify problems/issues, generate solutions and makes sound decisions.
  • Willingness to contribute actively to team activities, share experiences and suggest solutions
  • You will be expected to work various schedules based on the project requirements.

Physical Requirements:

Position requires the Construction Project Engineer to frequently walk, stand, and climb stairs/ladders and in/around construction site. Must maintain professional appearance and be able to work in a construction environment in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, hail, wind, sleet), around hazardous chemicals, dust, dirt, and other particulates. Must also have the ability to operate an automobile, read large quantities of information, operate computer equipment, speak, hear, bend, stoop, reach, lift, move and carry up to 100 lbs. independently. Finger dexterity is necessary.
