Human Resources (HR) Employee Benefits Specialist

Job Summary: The Human Resource (HR) Benefits Specialist will be acting as a key advisor to Choptank Community Health (CCHS) leadership and employees with the administration and service of our benefit programs. Our benefit programs are a key part of our employee’s overall total compensation. This position administers employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision coverage, life, LTD/AD&D, 403(b) retirement plan, FMLA, and employee wellness program. In addition, this position will oversee CCHS Scholarship and Apprenticeship programs and support CCHS Fleet Driver Safety program. The HR Benefits Specialist will support effective and efficient operations of the Human Resource department and CCHS leadership team.

  • Familiarity with laws, regulations, and best practices applicable to employee benefits.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn applicant-tracking software or other recruitment systems.
  • Valid driver's license.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field, or equivalent work experience, required.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP required or ability to obtain within two years of hire.
  • HIPAA Certification for Employer Group Health Plans, required
  • Certified Benefits Specialist Certification (CBSC), a plus.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all company personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures; assists with maintenance of employee handbook.
  • Monitors HR department email inbox and delegates accordingly.
  • Participates in tracking corporate goals, objectives, and training.
  • Maintains all benefit administration systems including new hire enrollments, employee termination (COBRA), salary adjustments for Life/AD&D/LTD, and any qualifying life event changes.
  • Handle Huron enrollment for rounding and manage 30- and 90-day evaluations are conducted.
  • Maintain ID badge and security access system.
  • Order and distribute Labor Law posters to all sites.
  • Participates in renewal process for annual benefits; including Request for Proposal (RFP) process as needed.
  • Oversees Open Enrollment annually.
  • Maintains payroll system including benefit enrollments in ADP.
  • Processes and reconciles monthly benefit invoices for approval by HR Director.
  • Submits ACA Reports annually as required.
  • Maintains all records and correspondence regarding 403(b) retirement plan.
  • Oversees Scholarship and Apprenticeship programs with the assistance of departmental leadership.
  • Oversees Employee Wellness programs with the assistance of Employee Health Nurse
  • Oversees Employee Engagement team.
  • Maintains required documentation and employment status updates of employees utilizing Federal Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and/or Leave of Absence (LOA).
  • Prepares for and participates in annual HR and financial audits.
  • Prepares for and participates in Joint Commission surveys.
  • Maintains personnel and confidential files including HRIS.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and company policies.
  • Attends and participates in college job fairs and recruiting sessions.
  • Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies and benefits; refers more complex questions to HR Director or senior management.
  • Conducts new hire orientation pertaining to CCHS benefit offerings and career path opportunities.
  • Supports CCHS Fleet Driver Safety program through conducting annual DOT updates, maintaining MVA records, and scheduling DOT physicals.
  • Prepares HR newsletters biweekly.
  • Complete a minimum of 20 hours of recertification training and conferences per year to maintain professional certifications.
  • Provides coverage as backup to HR Recruitment Specialist.
  • Regular, reliable attendance is a requirement of this job.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Negotiable based on experience

Physical Setting: Administrative Office

Schedule: 8 hour shift - Monday to Friday

Travel:

  • Reliable transportation is a necessity as travel is required to health centers and attending career fairs across the mid-shore.
