Job Description

Expectation

The Operation Manager oversees the activities related to the operation of pilot plants or pilot units to perform testing programs and to evaluate the performances of catalytic processes. Their duty is to organize the Operation team to promote safe and efficient operations to deliver reliable results in due time. The Operation Department gathers an Operation Coordinator and a team of operators under shift duty. The operations are broken up into 4 shifts, each unit has a shift supervisor. The four shifts’ groups maintain continuous coverage of the facility and its operation units.

They will manage daily the team, being assisted by the different Group‘s coordinators. The Operation Manager prioritizes the workload of each group with the understanding that safety is the highest priority, followed by running units and equipment inspections, work orders and continuous improvement of our internal processes and team members. They will also be in charge of ensuring the compliance of operation with our internal procedures and standards, to promote continuous improvement and to execute corporate projects as requested by the Pilot Plant Director. They will interact with other Departments such as the Engineering Department, Maintenance Department, Analytical Department and with the Facility Manager for the execution of their missions. They will work closely with the Project Managers. They will support the ROC America business partners and will report directly to the Pilot Plant Director.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIESOperation management

  • Defines key targets as well as other performance objectives provided by Pilot Plant Director for the Operation Department.
  • Ensure the forecast in operation of Pilots units to maximize the testing activities of the Lawrenceville Site.
  • Unit operations
    1. Manage Operations - delegate tasks to co-workers, forecast activities.
    2. Involved in the definition of the Run Manual.
    3. Assist members of the department in their tasks as required. Maintain a good overall safe working environment.
    4. Manage contract pilot unit programs to ensure programs are completed on time, on budget and technically correct. These projects may be on-site at Lawrenceville or off-site.
    5. Generate cost estimates requiring equipment design (specifications and cost), unit modifications, unit turnaround, unit operation and analytical requirements.
    6. Communicate with other departments to address the logistics needs, the engineering supports so that internal resources can be properly prioritized.
    7. Strong communications with the Maintenance group are required as well as with Project Managers
  • Budget
    1. Assist the Pilot Plant Director in the preparation of yearly Budget and resource allocation as well as in the preparation of yearly CAPEX projects related to Pilot units or Process equipment.
  • QHSE
    1. Maintain appropriate records per guidelines with emphasis on governing documents, scheduled meetings, call reports and other important documents.
    2. Member of Engineering Safety sub-committee
    3. Interact as needed with engineering Department (AutoCAD drawing reviewing, SOP reviewing & sign-off, etc..)

TECHNICAL & BEHAVIORAL REQUIREMENTS

Technical

  • Skilled in design and execution of experimental test programs
  • Chemical Engineering skills & ability to define remodeling or technical improvement of pilot unit
  • Knowledge of heavy oil upgrading technology
  • Understanding of design and operation of pilot plant testing equipment
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing methods
  • Knowledge of SAP (or similar ERP system) and Customer Relation Management (CRM) program experience required.
  • Proficiency in the use of all Microsoft Office tools, including Word and Excel

Required Competencies:

Degree in Chemical Engineering

10+ years’ experience

1st experience of operation of Pilot testing unit is highly recommended

Basis to learn the Pilot plant design or 1st experience in Pilot plant design

  • Assist in achieving Business Unit, Regional and Global Environmental Management Program goals and objectives
