Job Description

St. Rita School and St. Lucy School is seeking a full time K-8 Guidance Counselor for the 24/25 school year and beyond. This is a shared position between two schools split 50/50. You will only be at one school per day. The schools are in close in distance to each other, both located in Racine, WI.

Scope and Summary:
The guidance counselor is a key person in making the school’s philosophy, mission, and guiding principles come alive for the school community. The counselor challenges all students to develop their God-given talents and achieve their highest potential and works collaboratively with staff to develop a professional learning community. We are currently seeking an outstanding Guidance Counselor to join our dynamic team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

- Communicate with students and parents in an appropriate and timely manner to inform them of the student’s social and/or academic progress.
- Supports the mission of the school and contributes through personal example to the faith life and values of the school.
- Supervises students as assigned and whenever in the presence of students within the building, on campus or at school events off campus; takes action to deal with any observed, inappropriate student behavior.
- Incorporates faith development opportunities within the instructional program.
- Maintains a presence that provides the necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure student safety and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Displays respect and sensitivity to the beliefs, ideas, and needs of others.
- Supports and contributes to the continuing development of the school’s programs such as the School Improvement Plan, Staff Development, Study Hall, Campus Ministry, Extracurriculars and Athletics.
- Attends all faculty/staff meetings unless excused in advance by the administration.
- Performs all duties and fulfills the responsibilities as specified by the contract and job description, Employee Manual, and Staff and Family Handbooks.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Administration.

Qualifications:

- Have a Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling
- Certified by the Wisconsin DPI with License 7054 School Counselor or certifiable according to NCA standards for the position assigned. (If not certified, must have an educational plan, approved by the administration, outlining the steps toward certification with a target completion date. The plan must be on file with the administration.)
- Facility with computer technology including MS Office products and database programs.
- Experience in Catholic education preferred.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with school administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and students in a way which is warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable.
- Highly organized, accountable, confidential, and able to navigate within a diverse environment.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and independently with minimal direct supervision.

- Communicate verbally; audible speech and good hearing and eyesight
- Read/interpret digital and paper documents
- Physical dexterity to operate computer and equipment

Work Relationships & Scope:
Reports to Principal. Frequent contact with school faculty and staff, students and families. Occasional interaction with other Siena colleagues. Expected to exhibit sound judgment in making decisions, remembering that Siena's interests may be directly affected by their actions and decisions. Secures the approval of the Principal in making decisions when answers are not clear and further guidance or input is needed.
