Job Description

DescriptionAs a Logistics Specialist, you will be responsible for regional capacity planning for our Intermodal division. You will be responsible for scheduling and tracking pick-up and delivery appointments within our Intermodal Network. The individual’s success is measured through on-time pick-up, delivery performance, and communication timeliness to internal and external customers.  
What you'll do:

  • Partners with Planner for the assigned region when scheduling appointments. Identifies the preferred appointment to meet customer service goals, rail cut-off, and maximize our network of capacity.    
  • Reviews available capacity within the geographical area shipping region, including empty equipment on the street, and schedules pickup appointments with predefined guidelines.    
  • Schedules pick-up and delivery appointments with shippers and consignees within a geographical region to meet customer requirements and match dray capacity to reduce empty miles and improve dray efficiency.    
  • Monitors the timely pick up to in gate at the rail. Triage roadblocks include a lack of gate reservations, wrong orders, billing issues, etc.   
  • Monitors for notification (mounted on a chassis) at the destination ramp to final delivery to ensure identification of orders in jeopardy and notification to internal and external customers    
  • Monitors Service Failure tags and identifies trends associated with the region. Performs root cause analysis and executes corrective action plans  
  • Maintains detailed documentation and notes within the order (in Rail Optimizer) to record chronological events and conversations with customers and internal service partners     
  • Assist with new hire training  
  • Support additional cross-training with team members  
  • Support managerial functions when the direct manager is off   
  • Complete cross-training with various STG departments to better understand best practices for each division

What you'll have:

  • Hold a minimum of a high school diploma. Bachelor’s degree from a higher learning institution is preferred but not required  
  • 3-5 years of transportation/operations experience   
  • Adaptability. Maintaining effectiveness in reaching set goals by adapting to changed circumstances, tasks, responsibilities, and people. 
  • Customer focus. Knowing the internal and external customer business needs and acting accordingly. 
  • Data gathering in our web-based system (Rail Optimizer) to identify shipments that need scheduled or triaged. 
  • Strategic thinking. Understands and processes complex information, exercises sound judgement, and considers the situation, issues, key players, and levels of authority involved. Can propose courses of action that further the objective.
