Job Description

The Bryan County Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications for a Seasonal Poll Worker in our Elections Department.

This position is to perform polling station duties, prepare and process a variety of election and poll reports, forms, assist citizen requests, monitor the polling machines, maintain departmental records, and to ensure that the Election Process is handled in an orderly, professional, fair, and lawful manner in the assigned precinct. Must have the ability to interact with individuals from various backgrounds, as well as those with various learning styles.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Arrives on time as assigned and ensures that the assigned Precinct is prepared for voting by the designating opening time.

Identifies any difficulties or concerns and reports them immediately to the Elections Supervisor or Poll Manager.

Assists with the polling location set-up / disassembly of voting equipment.

Reports any missing supplies to the Elections Supervisor or Poll Manager.

Delivers required materials to the designated location at the end of the Election and prepares or completes various required forms, reports, correspondence, or other documents including recording and maintaining records.

Demonstrates strong verbal and communication skills.

Adheres to established laws, policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Secretary of State and the Board of Elections, and conducts business in accordance with Federal and State Election Guidelines.

Assists citizens and voters with information needs, including providing written and oral information; maintains supply of information, brochures, and Election process.

Operates/monitors election equipment.

Communicates and interacts effectively with Elections Supervisor, Election Day team members, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Attends mandatory training and meetings.

Assists Elections Supervisor and Poll Managers as needed.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Provides assistance to other employees and voters as needed.

Performs other related duties as required.

Maintain a professional attitude and appearance.

Manages multiple tasks simultaneously.

Ability to work 12 + hours on Election Day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A U.S. Citizen, a resident of the county where you will be working, 16 years of age or over, able to read, write and speak the English language, and have no prior felony convictions for at least 10 years. A poll officer is not eligible to run for public office and cannot hold a public office, other than a political party office, while serving as a poll worker. A parent, spouse, child, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law of a candidate cannot serve as a poll worker in any precinct where that candidate is listed on the ballot. Required to attend training sessions. After successful completion, a certificate stating that you are qualified to work in an upcoming primary or election will be issued.
