POSITION SUMMARY:

The Radiation Therapist is a non-exempt position that assists in localizing tumors, participates in treatment planning, and delivers high doses of ionizing radiation prescribed by a radiation oncologist. Radiation Therapists are the primary liaison between patients and other members of the radiation oncology team. The Radiation Therapist uses professional judgment and critical thinking when assisting with treatment planning, recognizing, and resolving equipment problems and treatment discrepancies, anticipating patient needs and concerns, and determining when treatment should be withheld until a physician can be consulted.

What you will be doing

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all equipment and uses all equipment proficiently, including function, emergency shutdown procedures and warm up procedures.
  • Ensures that proper tattoos and/or skin markings are given and documented per GHP policy.
  • Performs and documents Quality Assurance on IMRT plans, HDR equipment, daily treatment machines, and laser equipment per GHP policy.
  • Observes the first signs of any complications and determines when a treatment should be
    withheld until a physician is consulted.
  • Follows all procedures for reporting safety issues or potentially hazardous working conditions to the lead therapist or management.

What you will bring to the team

  • Graduate of an accredited program in Radiation Therapy
  • ARRT and State of California certification
  • CPR certified
  • Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures
  • Skill in effectively communicating both orally and in writing with physicians, co-workers, and administration.
