Job Description

Salary: $20 - $22 per hr plus manager benefits

The main responsibility of the Assistant Restaurant Manager (Harwood House) is to serve as the ‘right-hand’ of the restaurant manager.  The Assistant Manager is responsible for implementing workflow procedures and processes based on direction from the Manager, supervising employees during day-to-day tasks, providing customer support in escalated situations, and filling in for the Manager when he/she is not on-site.  Additional responsibilities include managing the wine program, organizing, participating in FOH meetings, and attending QHSR leadership events.      

Essential Job Functions:

- The Assistant Manager will be responsible for working alongside the Manager in support of the overall success of the Harwood House. 

- Assistant Manager will be required to learn all of the job duties of a host, server, and runner; however, he/she will not be regularly scheduled in any of those roles. In the rare event that there is an urgent need for a server the Asst. Manager may fill in.

- Because leadership is crucial, the Assistant Manager is required to fill in for the Manager in times of absence (days off, PTO, etc.). There should always be management coverage on a daily basis. 

- Training, guidance, and coaching of all FOH employees.  In order for people to meet our expectations, they need to know what the expectations are.  Like the Manager, the Assistant Manager is expected to ensure that all FOH employees are meeting the expectations of their roles.

  • Training, coaching, redirecting staff as needed.
  • Hold team members accountable for meeting quality and process/procedure expectations.
  • After collaborating with the Manager, discipline employees if needed.
  • Documenting all employee incidents as needed. Address minor disciplinary problems with team members; documentation of performance issues; reports/collaborates with Manager and Employee Development on more serious issues.
  • Directing staff members to communicate first and foremost with the Manager. In the absence of the Manager, communicate with the GM for final approval.
  • Assisting in the preparation and delivery of performance reviews.
  • Become familiar with all computer systems, including RezDiary.
  • Be a regular participant in successful onboarding of all new employees in the department.
  • Track employee training i.e. alcohol training, new employee orientation, etc.
  • Attend at least 1 New Hire Orientation per year
  • Attend at least 10 out of 12 Leadership Meetings per year

-Become a master at all computer programs currently used in the Harwood House including Simphony, RezDiary, Orbital Shift, Microsoft Outlook, and more.

-May manage the QHSR wine program.  This includes inventory, scheduling wine tastings, working with vendors, etc. 

-Complete required reports timely as assigned by the Manager. (Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly)

-Always problem solving.  Remove barriers to task completion for team members.

-Relationship builder. Continually building and strengthening relationships with HH team, other department managers, and coworkers at QHSR.

-Take an active leading role in keeping a safe work environment to prevent accidents/injuries - respond urgently to resolve and report safety incidents that may happen.

-Infectious attitude. Promote a positive work environment/good team member morale, leading by example.

-Monitor and work with Manager to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

-Understanding that the Manager sets the direction for the department and the Assistant Manager collaborates with and helps ensure consistency, compliance, and departmental communication.

-Perform other related duties as requested by the Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must work at least 5 shifts per week, 40 + hours per week.
  • Weekend and evening availability required
  • Must be available to work/be scheduled when the manager is absent (days off/vacations)

Knowledge / Education:

  • Documented/verifiable past experience in a leadership role.
  • Documented/verifiable past experience in a restaurant/server role.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Montana Alcohol Certification, Food Safety Certification
  • Sommelier Certification preferred but not required

  • Able to lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds. Food trays can get very heavy and require balance and strength.

  • Able to perform all of the tasks that we expect of the FOH team.
  • Capable of multitasking and adjusting to changing priorities on a regular basis.
  • Uses sound business judgement in making recommendations and decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment.
  • Flexible and can adjust to multiple requests with changing assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work all shifts including weekends as needed.

Work Conditions:

Standing and walking at a very fast pace for long periods of time, bending to clean/wipe tables, carrying loads up to 50 lbs. (supplies, food trays, etc). Work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. May be called in to cover shifts at all hours. Must be able to work outside in the heat during the summer months – patio seating.
