Description:

This Software subsystem lead role will own all things embedded software that manages and monitors all electrical power systems work across our product line.  This includes batteries, solar cells, temperature monitoring, core senors, etc.  This is a technical lead role, a bit more of an IC than the Program Lead, but still opportunities for leadership and to lead cross-functional teams.

Our Electrical Engineers must be problem solvers, strong collaborators, capable of interfacing with various teams, and secure working in an agile environment. This role demands someone with extensive experience building and utilizing test automation frameworks, test harnesses, and a variety of testing tools. Your skills will be challenged constantly as we continue to mature the software that drives the hardware which is the essence of our satellites.

In this role you will work with aerospace experts to define how our satellites operate and meet customer goals to successful missions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Define and develop testing campaigns for satellites and avionics
  • Contribute to design and implementation of our test automation framework
  • Definite and implement unit tests and regression tests for components and subsystems
  • Contribute to integration and testing for disparate components
  • Work with developers and systems engineers to develop test plans and validate unit tests
  • Coordinate with developers and satellite operators on complex integration tests
  • Create and execute automated and manual system tests
  • Manage SW production infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, tools and well documented processes
  • Design, develop, and document the CI/CD system for the flight software, ground station and control system
  • Design, develop, and support monitoring infrastructure to ensure service uptime
  • Support deployment of a complex set of satellite and component emulations
     

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Person (US Citizen or Green Card). Due to government regulation of the space industry, this requirement cannot be waived.
  • Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in CS, CE, or EE
  • Over 5 years’ experience delivering and maintaining commercial software in a production environment
  • Experience working on embedded software relevant to power management & distributio
  • Ideally for spacecraft, if not for aerospace or terrestrial applications.
  • Expertise in engineering clean and maintainable C, C++, and Python code
  • Expertise in Embedded Linux, ideally including related build systems (Buildroot, Yocto, etc.) and writing drivers
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver products on-time and on-budget.
  • 3+ years with CI/CD tools, specifically Jenkins and Gitlab
  • 3+ years Virtualization; building and maintaining Docker containers
  • 3+ years using and modifying QEMU for hardware emulation
  • Software version control using Git
  • A hardware testing mindset
  • Hardware test bench development and maintenance
     

Desired Qualifications:

  • Able to design and maintain infrastructure, including networking security, systems, deployments, automation, etc., from scratch
  • Experience with Atlassian tools: confluence, JIRA, etc.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies, software product and release life cycles, source code and change management
  • Experience with requirements management tools
  • Experience with integrating open source software with internal development is highly desired
  • Understanding of FPGA tools such as Vivado (tcl), Libero and others
     

Benefits:

Compensation range is $140-200k and 10%+ target bonus
Your level/title, base salary, and bonus will be determined on a case by case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is one part of your total rewards package - you may also be eligible for up to 10+% potential bonuses. Additional employee benefits are detailed below as well.
