Job Title: Summer Camp Counselor

Department: Recreation

Classification: Seasonal

Salary Range: $14.00 Hourly

Directly Reports To: Recreation Manager – Youth and Early Childhood

DESCRIPTION

The summer camp counselor is a part time position located at the REC Center. The camp counselor plans & implements activities, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, sports and games for campers in Kindergarten through 8th grade. In addition, they are responsible for supervision of a group of children, enforcing rules and regulations with participants, assist with daily attendance records, participate in planned activities and assures safety for camp participants.

Requirements:

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must be 16 years of age (or 15 years of age with a work permit) with at least one year of youth related leadership experience.
  2. Successfully complete pre-employment background check.
  3. Current CPR/AED Certification is required. Decision-making ability, conflict resolution and organizational skills required.
  4. Ability to understand and exhibit behavior consistent with the stated park district values.
  5. Ability to work with all age groups.
  6. Must possess good communication and customer service skills.
  7. Must be able to work 5 days Monday-Friday
  8. Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Planning & implementing activities, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, sports and games for campers in Kindergarten through 8th grade.
  2. Responsible for supervision of a group of children.
  3. Enforces rules and regulations with participants.
  4. Assists with daily attendance records.
  5. Participate in planned activities.
  6. Assures safety for camp participants.
  7. Must follow, administer, and implement Huntley Park District policies and procedures.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responds to parent concerns.
  2. Ensures that safety policies are adhered to by all staff and participants.
  3. Inventory equipment and supplies.
  4. Must accurately complete reports as necessary.
  5. Understand and implement the District’s mission and values statements as created and approved by the Park District Board. Wear Park District staff shirt and identification during all work hours.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must be able to tolerate sun, light rain, heat and humidity.
  2. While performing this job, the employee is required to speak and listen.
  3. Employee is required to stand, walk and use hands.
  4. Employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop or kneel, lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  5. Specific vision requirements include, distance, color vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  6. Employee must be able to follow supervisor directions with safe follow through and exercise good judgment and safety awareness. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.

  1. Must be organized, with good interpersonal communication skills, supervisory skills, safety awareness and sound judgment.

SAFETY AND FACILITY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Assure a safe and hazard free environment by inspecting and taking the necessary action to correct and safeguard against potential problems and/or accidents.
  2. Must comply with all safety policies and procedures now in effect or adopted in the future.
  3. Worker must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercises good judgment and safety awareness.
  4. Worker will use all required PPE.
  5. All unsafe conditions are to be reported to your supervisor immediately.
