Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Safety and Risk Management team as a Summer Intern. Reporting directly to the Director of Corporate Safety, this internship provides a unique opportunity to be actively engaged in corporate safety operations while contributing to impactful safety initiatives. The intern will also assist with the preparation and execution of our Annual Safety Summit—a global event hosting over 60 internal safety professionals at our corporate campus on August 26-27. Depending on the intern's availability, involvement in the Summit during and post-event may vary if returning to school prior to those dates.

Key Responsibilities:

Corporate Campus Initiatives:

  • Partner with the Director of Corporate Safety to establish and launch a new corporate campus Safety Committee, including recruiting members, defining goals, and leading committee activities.
  • Conduct safety audits across the corporate campus, documenting findings and developing corrective action plans.
  • Update and maintain the campus-wide Safety Data Sheets (SDS) book to ensure compliance and accessibility.
  • Create a "Safety Moment Library," a collection of quick safety tips and discussion topics for employees to use as meeting starters.
  • Participate in non-confidential corporate safety meetings with the Director to gain exposure to strategic discussions and high-level decision-making related to safety and risk management.

Risk Management & Data Analysis:

  • Analyze safety incident data to uncover trends, patterns, and root causes using provided data sets.
  • Share data insights and key findings with relevant Segment Safety Leaders to foster collaboration on actionable plans to address potential risks and hazards.

Annual Safety Summit Preparation & Optional Execution:

  • Assist the Safety team with preparation for the Annual Safety Summit by developing event materials, presentations, and resources to be used during workshops and sessions.
  • Support the team in logistical readiness, ensuring all necessary materials and supplies are prepped prior to the Summit.
  • If available, provide on-site assistance during the Summit (August 26-27), including participant support and event troubleshooting.
  • Assist with post-event evaluations and gather feedback, if availability permits, to report on the Summit’s outcomes and successes.

Collaboration with Local Companies:

  • Work alongside local safety professionals on initiatives such as SDS system management and supporting safety-related documentation updates.
  • Participate in warehouse and jobsite safety audits, contributing to hazard identification and corrective action plans.
  • Pair with local safety teams to provide support for ongoing safety initiatives.

Other projects or duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of high school is required.
  • Currently enrolled in or completed a degree program in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Risk Management, Industrial Engineering, Data Analytics, or related fields is a plus but not required.
  • Genuine interest in workplace safety, compliance, and risk management processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills, multitasking ability, and keen attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI is a plus.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with confidence to present findings and insights.
  • Comfortable collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders, including attending corporate discussions and assisting with event preparation.
  • Knowledge of SDS management, safety audits, or process development is a plus but not required.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and contributing to team goals.

What You'll Gain:

  • Direct mentorship from the Director of Corporate Safety, including attending high-level safety meetings to gain insights into corporate safety strategy and decision-making.
  • Leadership experience by coordinating and launching a corporate campus Safety Committee.
  • Hands-on involvement in campus-level safety initiatives, including audits, SDS management, and developing resources such as the Safety Moment Library.
  • Collaboration opportunities with Segment Safety Leaders to address risk trends and implement safety action plans.
  • Real-world experience assisting with the preparation for the Annual Safety Summit, a high-profile global event.
  • Optional opportunities to gain event-planning experience during and after the Summit, if available.
  • A holistic understanding of corporate safety operations and opportunities to learn from experienced professionals.
