Assistant Distribution Manager
Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Distribution Manager to join our team. This role is responsible for supervising warehouse staff, ensuring safe and efficient shipping and receiving operations, and maintaining accurate inventory management. The Assistant Distribution Manager supports both purchasing and sales by organizing stock to maximize space, picking orders accurately and on time, and assisting in the loading and staging of trucks. This position requires strong leadership, safety awareness, and the ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead a team of 12-14 warehouse employees, including training, motivating, and developing staff.
- Promote teamwork and ensure productivity targets are met.
- Conduct daily safety walk-throughs and enforce company policies for conduct and safety.
- Lead monthly warehouse safety meetings and quarterly driver safety meetings.
- Maintain accurate inventory through daily cycle counts and implement corrective actions to reduce product loss.
- Develop and manage bin location systems for efficient storage and order picking.
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks, including staging trucks for evening loads.
- Oversee cost control by maximizing productivity, warehouse layout, dock usage, and loading efficiency.
- Monitor and maintain warehouse equipment, vehicles, and machinery to meet OSHA and Federal DOT standards.
- Manage PeopleNet systems to ensure compliance with Federal DOT regulations on driver hours and safety.
- Strategically plan delivery routes to ensure timely, accurate, and profitable product delivery.
- Collaborate with purchasing and sales teams to support customer service goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in a warehouse or distribution environment preferred.
- At least 3 years of forklift operation experience required.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a drug test and background verification.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in email software, Microsoft Office Suite, CRM systems, barcode scanning technology, and transportation management systems (TMS).
- Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, clamp trucks, hand trucks, and other warehouse equipment; CDL Class A experience is a plus.
