Program Description:
An Assistant Controller plays a key role in managing the company’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy in reporting, compliance, and internal controls. Responsibilities include overseeing the balance sheet, cost accounting, accounts payable, and revenue recognition while ensuring financial accuracy and integrity. They handle reporting and budgeting using Excel and ERP systems, participate in account reconciliations, month-end closings, audits, and tax filings, and prepare financial statements. Additionally, they mentor and train accounting staff, maintain fiscal records, and test financial controls and policies to support compliance and efficiency.
Essential Job Functions:
Cash Management & Banking
- Oversee daily cash management activities, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.
- Record daily cash transactions in the General Ledger (GL).
- Process ACH and wire transfer instructions for AP check runs.
- Monitor and manage bank balances across all company accounts.
Reconciliations & Financial Reporting
- Perform month-end bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile payroll accounts, including wages and fringe payables.
- Conduct intercompany reconciliations to ensure accuracy across entities.
- Post bi-weekly payroll transactions and expense reimbursements.
- Reconcile and post company credit card expenditures.
- Investigate and record unbilled revenue in coordination with FP&A for revenue recognition.
- Allocate management and facility expenses appropriately.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including maintaining recurring journal entries.
- Complete assigned month-end reconciliations to support financial close.
Tax & Compliance
- Prepare and submit tax payments, including state sales and use tax, federal income tax, and business license applications.
ERP & Process Support
- Provide ERP support for GL maintenance and integration with new software.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree: Accounting, finance, or other related discipline
Minimum of 5 years’ experience: Relevant accounting and financial principles in a public or private sector
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations CPA / CMA preferred
Proficient Knowledge of accounting and financial principles
Proficient Knowledge of multi-currency, multi-company consolidations
Intermediate Knowledge and experience in tax matters
Proficient Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, SAP, GP or Microsoft Dynamics preferred
Proficient Skill in budgeting, report writing, and financial analysis
Proficient Skill in documentation and attention to detail
Proficient Skill in Microsoft Excel
Language Abilities:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, and work place policies. Ability to analyze, interpret general business periodicals, procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to analyze and interpret technical research journals. Ability to write professional correspondences. Ability to present information in small group and large group situations to customer, strategic business partners, the general public, and other employees. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top management, public groups, community, and Board of Directors.
Mathematical Abilities:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and design and interpret charts and graphs to communicate business issues. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inferences to business issues.

Ability to carry out detailed written and/or verbal instructions. Ability to solve practical and critical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form to carry out objectives.
