Position Summary:
The Emergency Room RN delivers high-quality, evidence-based nursing care in a fast-paced, high-volume emergency department. This role cares for patients across the lifespan—from pediatric to geriatric—and manages both critical and non-emergent cases. The nurse partners closely with physicians, mid-levels, behavioral health, respiratory therapy, and ancillary teams to ensure safe and effective patient outcomes.
Qualifications:
Required Certifications:
- BLS
- ACLS
- PALS
- TNCC
- ASLS or NIHSS
- CPI
Additional Preferences:
- Travel experience highly preferred
- OR 5+ years in a Level 1 Trauma facility
- Experience with Alaris pumps (preferred)
- Experience with ESI triage (preferred but not required)
Details:
- Unit: Emergency Room
- Daily Volume: ~140 patient visits per day
- Bed Setup:
-
- 25 monitored ER beds
- 6 fast-track treatment beds
- 6 fast-track chairs
- 2 trauma bays
- A recess bay
- Dedicated stroke room
- 4-bed behavioral health lockdown area
- Fast Track: Dedicated space to treat low-acuity patients and redirect non-emergent cases to community clinics
- Support Staff:

- Charge Nurse
- Nurse Aides/Paramedics (2–3 per shift)
- Security and patient sitters
- 24/7 RT (dedicated to ER)
- Pharmacy in-department 11 hours/day; on campus 24/7
- Central monitoring techs
- Physician/Mid-Level Coverage:
-
- 1 mid-level 24/7
- Additional mid-level 9a–9p
- 2–4 physicians depending on time of day
- Procedures/Responsibilities:

- Nurses draw labs and start IVs
- Will manage vents until admitted
- Triage nurse on duty
- Common Cases:
-
- Trauma, neuro, ortho, stroke, peds to geriatrics
- No burns kept in-house
- Ships out major neuro/trauma based on severity
Shift & Schedule:
- 12-Hour Days
- Every other weekend
- Every other holiday
- Scrubs: Caribbean Blue
EMR:
- Meditech 6.15
Nurse/Patient Ratio:
- 1:4
Float Requirement:
- No float outside ER
