Role Overview
The CFO will serve as a key strategic partner to ownership and executive leadership, overseeing all financial planning, accounting, cash flow management, and risk mitigation for the company. This role requires deep experience in construction accounting, job costing, and project-based financial management, with strong working knowledge of Buildertrend and QuickBooks.
The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, capable of managing details while guiding long-term financial strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy to support growth, profitability, and operational efficiency
- Act as a trusted advisor to ownership on financial performance, forecasting, and capital planning
- Provide clear financial insights to support decision-making across construction projects and the overall business
Construction Financial Management
- Oversee job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project margin analysis
- Ensure accurate tracking of budgets, change orders, draw schedules, and project profitability
- Partner closely with project managers and operations to maintain financial discipline on all projects
Accounting & Systems
- Own and optimize financial systems, including Buildertrend and QuickBooks
- Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements
- Establish and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and best practices
Cash Flow, Budgeting & Forecasting
- Manage company cash flow, forecasting, and liquidity planning
- Develop and monitor annual budgets and rolling forecasts
- Oversee AR/AP, vendor payments, and collections to support healthy cash flow
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and reporting requirements
- Manage relationships with CPAs, tax advisors, banks, and external partners
- Identify and mitigate financial, operational, and project-related risks
Team & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead and mentor accounting and finance staff (internal or outsourced)
- Work closely with operations, project management, and leadership teams
- Drive financial accountability across the organization
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience as a CFO, Controller, or senior finance leader within construction or real estate development
- Strong expertise in construction accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting
- Hands-on experience with Buildertrend and QuickBooks (required)
- Deep understanding of cash-flow-driven businesses and project-based financials
- Experience supporting growing or scaling construction companies
- Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
- Ability to work full-time in-office in Dallas, TX
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA, CMA, or MBA
- Experience working with lenders, bonding, and construction financing
- Background in process improvement and system optimization
- Experience building or scaling finance teams
