Job Summary
Cortlandt-Peekskill RPS, Inc. is looking for Paramedics that want to serve and provide
outstanding medical care to our community with enthusiasm and compassion. The ideal candidate:
1. Possess a strong ability to work well with fellow team members of Cortlandt-Peekskill RPS, Inc.
2. Demonstrates competency in trauma and medical situations.
3. Possess the knowledge and the necessary skills to provide lifesaving interventions in a prehospital setting
4. Determines the nature and extent of illness or injury and establishes priority for required emergency care
5. Assists and gives direction to other first responders at the scene and/or during transport
6. Possess complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation.
Job Qualifications
1. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and possession of current and valid certification as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (AEMT-P) as issued by New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services
2. Maintenance of a current state driver’s license with acceptable driving record
3. Achievement of a negative DOT drug screen
4. Maintenance of current ACLS, PALS and BLS Health Provider certifications
5. Preferred qualifications:
a. Westchester REMAC certification
b. One year of experience
c. ALSFRV experience
Paramedic Description of Duties
1. Respond to emergencies efficiently and promptly
2. Administer both basic and advanced life support and assessing the nature and extent of injuries/illnesses
3. Administer the appropriate medical treatment deemed necessary by protocol or as directed by the agency medical director or a medical control physician
4. Understand patient medical condition while in care
5. Monitor patient’s condition and response to treatment while assisting in transport to the hospital
6. Administer cardiac life support, cardioversion, pacing, IV insertion, medication administration, advanced airway insertion and defibrillation
7. Stay up to date with evolving medical treatment protocols, response requirements, quality assurance procedures and agency Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
8. Operate emergency vehicles with due caution
9. Maintain proficiency with operating emergency vehicles and follow state traffic laws and regulatory requirements
10. Perform documented daily inspections of Advanced Life Support equipment ensuring readiness and regulatory agency compliance
11. Maintain and safeguard-controlled medications, other medications, and medical supplies.
12. Notify immediate supervisor when vehicle deficiencies, equipment, or supplies are missing or defective or mechanical failure to paramedic vehicle has occurred
13. Perform documented daily vehicle inspections to ensure a state of mechanical readiness; ensure that appropriate safety medical equipment and supplies are on board vehicle
14. Ensure the paramedic vehicle is cleaned inside / outside, medical equipment is restocked, and vehicle is ready for the next shift
15. Maintain complete and accurate documentation of patient assessment and treatment utilizing Patient care record software
16. Communicate effectively and professionally with medical professionals, other first responders and hospital medical providers
17. Demonstrate a strong orientation towards teamwork and the ability to understand the importance of team coordinated efforts in and out of the emergency setting
18. Create an environment of safety to reduce or eliminate actions or behaviors under their control that contribute to injury and illness
19. Attend quarterly meetings and training as requested
20. Maintains proficiency at the EMT-P certification level, New York State certification and Westchester REMAC through periodical training and education requirements
21. Use computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software in performing work assignments
Essential knowledge, skills, and abilities
· Proficiency in all NYS DOH Bureau of EMS Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic level procedures
· Ability to administer medications, start intravenous (IV) lines, provide advanced airway management for patients, resuscitate patients
· Ability to apply positive pressure ventilation through a ventilator or mask-valve-bag
· Proficiency in shock management and resilience
· Ability to help people who have suffered trauma
· Ability to make quick and effective decisions
· Ability to navigate medical devices and equipment
· Ability to operate radio and communication devices
· Ability to learn new protocols and procedures
· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
· Ability to utilize a computer device and operate patient charting software, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and scheduling software
· Proficiency in the English language both written and spoken
· Possession of effective communication skills
