Job DescriptionLHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a client in Suffolk County to fill a Senior Staff Accountant role. This is a temp to hire opportunity and will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, including the supervision and management of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable staff. This role performs and reviews general ledger activities, supports month-end and year-end closing, and ensures accurate financial reporting. The Senior Staff Accountant serves as a key liaison between transactional accounting functions and management, ensuring compliance with GAAP, strong internal controls, and efficient accounting processes.

Principal duties and responsibilities for this position include:

• Review work prepared by Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable and provide guidance and training.

• Process daily shipments.

• Prepare and review monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations and supporting schedules.

• Assist with weekly cash flow, month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and depreciation!

• Prepare financial statements.

• Support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting as needed.

• Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies.

• Assist with process improvements and documentation of accounting procedures.

• Collaborating with other departments to resolve accounting issues.

• Handle special projects and ad hoc analyses as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (required)

• 4-7 years of progressive accounting experience

• Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting

• Experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• High level of accuracy and attention to detail

• Strong work ethic and sense of ownership

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Professional judgment and discretion with confidential information

Additional Skills

• CPA or CPA-eligible

• Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or a similar industry

• Experience with ERP systems (Sage X3)

• Prior experience mentoring or reviewing work of staff

• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas)

Pay Details: $38.00 to $50.00 per hour
