We are seeking an experienced P & C Liability Supervisor to lead our liability claims team. This role combines hands-on claims expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring claims are handled accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable laws and company standards. You will mentor adjusters, oversee daily operations, and serve as a point of contact for escalated inquiries and complaints.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform initial review of loss notices to identify potential coverage or liability issues.
- Ensure proper handling of claims through routine diary reviews and ongoing interaction with adjusting staff.
- Conduct quarterly audits to assess quality, accuracy, and compliance in claims handling.
- Properly research and resolve “No Record Mail” items.
- Maintain excellent working knowledge of applicable liability laws and regulations.
- Supervise and support adjuster staff and team assistant.
- Provide training via direct coaching or assignment to Senior Adjusters for skill development.
- Design, implement, and update training regimens for new and experienced employees.
- Monitor compliance with continuing education (CEU) requirements for adjusters.
- Ensure appropriate vacation coverage for adjusters to maintain workflow.
- Serve as the point of contact for telephone calls from claimants, policyholders, or third parties requesting to speak with an adjuster’s supervisor.
- Handle complaints professionally, ensuring timely resolution and proper documentation.
- Keep the Claims Manager informed of personnel matters, performance concerns, and operational challenges.
- Work closely with management and senior staff to identify process improvements and implement best practices.
- Stay current with industry trends, legal developments, and state-specific liability rules.
Skills, knowledge & expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in business, insurance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
- Minimum 5 years of P&C liability claims experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
- Strong knowledge of liability laws, coverage interpretation, and claims processes.
- Proven ability to train, mentor, and evaluate staff performance.
- Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in claims management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
