The City of Ecorse is hiring a Police Officer to join our growing, community-focused department. We’re looking for motivated, professional individuals who are committed to protecting our residents, enforcing the law, and representing the City with integrity.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct proactive patrols throughout the City of Ecorse, including vehicle patrol and occasional foot patrol.
- Enforce traffic laws, issue citations, conduct investigations, and make arrests when appropriate.
- Prepare accurate and timely incident reports, daily logs, and required documentation.
- Respond to calls for service, assist citizens, and embrace community policing principles.
- Follow all departmental directives, policies, legal standards, and professional procedures.
- Stay informed on new laws, trends, crime data, and best practices in law enforcement.
- Receive and apply constructive feedback professionally.
- Maintain ethical conduct and uphold departmental values at all times.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- Law Enforcement: Understanding of criminal law, legal codes, court procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Customer Service: Ability to provide professional, high-quality service to residents and visitors.

- Ability to evaluate situations quickly and use sound judgment in determining appropriate actions.

- Ability to maintain cooperative, respectful working relationships with coworkers, citizens, and partner agencies.

- Ability to listen effectively and handle sensitive situations with tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.

- Ability to plan and organize daily patrol duties efficiently.
- Prioritize tasks using effective time-management practices.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must meet physical fitness standards or pass a physical examination.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull moderately heavy objects; occasional heavy lifting may be required.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, and perform coordinated physical movements for extended periods.
- Ability to distinguish colors, hear clearly, and react quickly in dynamic situations.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, during any shift (days, evenings, nights).
- Vision must be correctable to 20/20.

COMPENSATION & INCENTIVES
- Starting Pay:

- Academy Trainee: $31.25/hr
- Certified Officers: $34.86–$40.87/hr, based on experience
- Lateral Transfer Pay Credit:
-
- New hire patrol officers may transfer prior years of service from a current or previous law enforcement agency for wage placement only.
- Note: Transferred years do not apply toward sick or vacation accruals.
- Hiring Bonus:

- $1,500 one-time bonus awarded after successful completion of the Field Training Officer (FTO) program.
