Job Description
Job DescriptionPlant Reliability Work Control Specialist
City: Schenectady, NY
Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Compensation: $31.00–$39.50 per hour
Imagine this
Production is queued to blend a critical batch for a major customer. A filler shows early signs of wear in the CMMS, while a scheduled PM on a blender is due in two hours. You quickly rank critical assets, align contractors, issue safe work permits, and update the plan—keeping people safe, quality intact, and uptime high. If that’s your kind of challenge, you’ll thrive at dsm-firmenich.
Our Human Nutrition & Health Premix team formulates liquids and dry blends for food and dietary supplements. In this role, you’ll be the engine behind maintenance workflow: coordinating technicians and vendors, sequencing work, and ensuring compliance with QEs, LSRs, SHE, and site programs.
Your impact
- Lead by example in site behavioral programs: complete training, execute SHE/Quality activities, enforce PPE and procedural adherence; perform other duties as assigned.
- Coordinate multi-shift maintenance activities with internal technicians and third-party contractors; deliver on-time completion with precise documentation.
- Prioritize and schedule work by urgency and equipment criticality to cut downtime.
- Design and execute preventive maintenance schedules to maximize reliability.
- Author and review safe work permits and job safety analyses for all maintenance tasks.
- Oversee spare parts, tools, and supplies inventories to support planned and unplanned work.
- Collaborate closely with the Maintenance Supervisor and Production on repairs, PMs, and contractor performance.
When we’ll need you
- Weekends, overtime, and holidays as required by maintenance demand—including call-ins.
- Annual shutdown in early July (as needed).
What you’ll bring to the team
- High school diploma/equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Management, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years in maintenance coordination, industrial project management, or a related discipline (education may substitute).
- Proven leadership in fast-paced environments; prior maintenance supervision in manufacturing is a plus.
- Advanced digital skills: spreadsheets; Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint); and CMMS expertise.
- A knack for converting technical theory into practical, safe, shop-floor execution.
- Strong relationships with Production and Maintenance—where improvements are implemented and sustained.
- Planning and scheduling experience.
Areas of proficiency
- Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
- Mechanical Troubleshooting Skills
- Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
- Commercial Electrical Expertise
- Process Engineering
- Mechanical Design & Engineering
