Position Overview

The Total Joint Orthopedic Surgeon plays a crucial role in assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with hip and knee musculoskeletal issues, primarily focusing on adult reconstructive surgery. This position encompasses conducting both primary and revision joint replacement surgeries, overseeing non-operative orthopedic care, and delivering thorough pre-operative and post-operative treatment.

In this role, the Total Joint Orthopedic Surgeon collaborates closely with physician assistants, nurses, therapists, and other clinical personnel to guarantee coordinated and high-quality patient care. The surgeon is expected to uphold clinical excellence, adhere to professional and ethical standards, and contribute positively to the practice's overall success and development.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with hip and knee conditions, including degenerative joint disease, arthritis, and various musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Create personalized treatment plans that incorporate both surgical and non-surgical methods.
  • Conduct surgical procedures, including primary and revision total hip and knee arthroplasties.
  • Deliver comprehensive care before, during, and after surgery to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.
  • Track patient progress and modify treatment plans as needed.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record system.

Surgical Responsibilities

  • Perform orthopedic surgeries in line with established medical standards and evidence-based practices.
  • Engage in surgical scheduling and manage block time utilization as required.
  • Work alongside surgical facility staff to ensure smooth and safe surgical procedures.
  • Comply with all credentialing and privileging requirements of the facility.

Patient Care Coordination

  • Collaborate with physician assistants, nurses, medical assistants, therapists, and administrative personnel to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with referring providers and other members of the patient's healthcare team.
  • Educate patients about their diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, and recovery expectations.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain board certification and fulfill continuing medical education requirements.
  • Participate in practice meetings, peer review sessions, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Hold active medical staff privileges at associated surgical facilities.
  • Engage in shared call coverage as determined by the practice.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an accredited Orthopedic Surgery Residency program.
  • Fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction / Total Joint Arthroplasty.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Orthopedic Surgery.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Oregon.
  • Eligibility for hospital privileges at affiliated surgical facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in performing primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasties.
  • A strong focus on clinical outcomes and a patient-centered care approach.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Working Conditions

  • This is an onsite position requiring regular attendance at the clinic.
  • The work environment is fast-paced, involving direct interaction with patients.
  • Employees may be required to work at various locations based on clinic demands.
  • The role involves frequent standing, walking, and assisting patients, with occasional lifting of medical supplies.
  • Compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control policies is essential.
  • Utilization of an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system for scheduling and documentation is required.
