Head Coach, Mogul Team

CLASSIFICATION Year-round; Full-time

FLSA Exempt

REPORTS TO Freestyle Development Director - Director - Snowboard, Freeski, Freestyle

LOCATION USANA Center for Excellence, Park City, UT

TRAVEL 80% - Camps and Competitions


SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

To lead, organize, and manage the highest quality Mogul National Team Program. The Head Coach is the leader of the Mogul National and Development teams and is responsible for preparing the team for the highest level of success. The Head Coach provides the leadership and direction for the team based on expertise and experience. The Head Coach is athlete focused and performance driven, strives to lead, is a good communicator, and detail oriented.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Athlete Experience

  1. Establishes a positive environment for the athletes and coaches and works to establish a collaborative culture of mutual accountability and continuous feedback.

  2. Highly knowledgeable and involved in the specific details of mogul skiing including specific training programs, staffing responsibilities, individual athlete performance goals, and strategies to achieve those goals.

  3. The Head Coach, in collaboration with the staff, is responsible for establishing expectations of athletes and staff in adhering to the values, culture, and expectations associated with team and organization.

  4. Ensure training and competition plans are established, implemented, and modified as necessary to meet the individual athlete needs as well as the agreed upon philosophies and plans.

Operational Excellence

  1. Establish and execute an annual and long-term sport plan that provides for an athlete focused approach for success at every level.

  2. Lead coaches, technicians and other sport support in implementing the annual plan against the agreed upon goals and objectives.

  3. Coordination with Sports Science Department on all team support (PTs, Doctors, Strength & Conditioning, Nutrition, Sports Psychologists) at all preparation and competition projects. Ensure that all members of the staff understand and follow the policies and procedures for dealing with athlete injury and rehabilitation

  4. Strong knowledge of FIS and U.S. Ski & Snowboard competition rules and process.

  5. Establish selection criteria and process for the following levels:

    1. National Team

    2. World Cup

    3. World Championships

    4. Olympic Winter Games

  6. Collaborate with Team Manager on project planning to ensure details are in place for elite performance at camps and competitions.

  7. Collaborate with Sport Director regarding overall direction of program, future strategies, challenges, budget, and long-term planning.

  8. Benchmark our programs and performance against other nations and constantly evaluating our programs to ensure athletic success.

  9. Work proactively with other organizational departments to ensure needs and requirements for the program are being delivered.

  10. Active role in relevant FIS Committees and activities to ensure direction of sport globally aligns with domestic priorities.

Financial Performance

  1. Plan and execute an agreed upon budget that focuses resources on the execution of the athletic plan.

  2. Manage the mogul national team budget including camp and competitions, technicians, and equipment.

  3. Management expenses for each project and/or event.

  4. Ensure that operational plans are compatible with available budget.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Incumbents must be able to lift up to 25 pounds (50 with assistance), climb, stand, stoop and work outside in all weather conditions. Job requires travel and work on weekends, nights, holidays and on-call basis.

COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE

  1. Understands and agrees with U.S. Ski and Snowboard’s values; team, accountability, loyalty, respect, integrity and perseverance

  2. National and International level mogul coaching experience with World Cup level athletes.

  3. An attitude and mindset for thinking outside of the box and pushing the boundaries to achieve excellence

  4. A very strong work ethic and a curiosity to continue to learn

  5. Excellent at building relationships, being collaborative, listening, in addition to very strong communication skills, both verbal (including public speaking) and written.

  6. Experience managing teams and culture within those teams. Experience of working with diverse stakeholders preferred

  7. Must be a strategic and long-term thinker, while also being detail and task oriented

  8. Strong time management skills and works well under pressure

  9. Foreign language skills are a plus

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct supervision of the following positions:

  1. Mogul World Cup Coach

  2. Mogul D team – Development Coach

  3. PT’s / ATC’s (seasonal contracts)
