Horizons at Episcopal Academy Enrichment Music Teacher

The Position

Horizons at The Episcopal Academy (HEA) seeks a dedicated and enthusiastic Enrichment Music Teacher to inspire a lifelong love of learning in children. This summer position runs from June 22–July 30, 2026, and is ideal for a passionate, collaborative educator who supports the Horizons mission and fosters a joyful, inclusive, and academically engaging environment. Horizons encourages staff to return for multiple summers to help strengthen the program and community.

Key Responsibilities

Before the Summer Program:

  • Attend orientation and professional development sessions.
  • Design and teach high-quality, culturally responsive, project-based music curriculum for the six-week program.

During the Summer Program:

  • Lead engaging lessons, community-building activities, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Build positive partnerships with Lead Teachers, assistant teachers, volunteers, and Upper School interns to support classroom instruction and student engagement.
  • Participate in meals, recess, and other daily activities to foster student relationships.
  • Attend weekly faculty meetings and contribute to program evaluation and feedback on student progress.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, challenging, and fun learning environment.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Completion of all required state and federal clearances; CPR/AED certification required.
  • Commitment to Horizons' mission and educational equity.
  • Knowledge of instructional best practices and practical teaching experience.
  • Flexibility, strong organization, initiative, and enthusiasm for teaching and learning.
  • Ability to relate to children and families from diverse racial, cultural, religious, and neurodiverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of classroom management, social-emotional learning, and strategies for developing noncognitive skills such as focus, determination, empathy, and self-discipline.
  • Demonstrated commitment to understanding systemic impacts on families and communities, with ongoing personal growth and reflection.

HEA is a community-centered education program serving students from the Greater Philadelphia area. HEA advances educational equity through long-term partnerships with students, families, schools, and communities. Its core offering is a six-week summer enrichment program on Episcopal Academy's campus, complemented by a growing school-year program that includes tutoring, community service, and cultural programming.
