Summary of Position Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the Medical Director, provide psychiatric services supervision and direction to mental health and substance abuse services; engage in psychiatric care; provide medical supervision and administrative direction to subordinate medical and support staff; develop protocols and standardized procedures; conduct psychiatric evaluations; make diagnosis and prescribe medical and rehabilitative treatment; supervise and direct the medical aspects of treatments; confer with staff and patients and their families regarding diagnosis and treatment; recommend hospitalization or other indicated services; make referrals to specialists as appropriate; provides clinical assessments and crisis interventions for psychiatric emergencies; plan and prepare standardized procedures and protocols; conduct in-service training; assure that medical care meets quality assurance standards; assure that quality primary outpatient medical care is provided; assure that patients medical charts and records are accurate and meet legal and medical requirements; prepare records and reports; input, access and analyze data using a computer; attend/facilitate meetings.


Essential Duties:

  • Assess and screen patients by conducting psychiatric evaluations, including interviews, medical histories, physical exams, observations, and psychological testing
  • Analyze data and results of assessments to diagnose patients
  • Prescribe and administer medications according to diagnosis
  • Monitor patients to determine efficacy and potential side effects of medications
  • Develop a treatment plan, measure progress against the plan, and make adjustments as needed
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed
  • Complete all necessary clinical documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Collaborate with a broader team of physicians, psychologists, nurses, social work and other support staff to assess and adjust treatment plans
  • Work effectively with departmental staff, private physicians, clients and others contracted in the course of work.
  • Coordinate and communicate with case managers and other stakeholders about treatment and care
  • Review appropriate paperwork for documentation of clinical services and medical assessments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Working Conditions:

Work is usually performed in an office environment; includes continuous contact with staff and the public. Work is performed in an office or other environmentally controlled room; work exposes incumbent to contagious or infectious diseases; work may expose incumbent to dangerous and volatile situations; which could result in bodily injury.

Requirements:

Requirements/Education/License:

  • Must have a current CRNP or ARNP in Maryland, with a specialization in Psychiatry at least 2 years’ experience.
  • Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing for Nurse Practitioner by an accredited educational institution.
  • Previous experience working with patients with mental health disorders and/or addictions preferred.
  • Active DEA/ Number/Buprenorphine waiver number.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.
  • Experience providing outpatient services to an adult and/or child population with mental illness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency; Microsoft office a plus.
  • Trained in cultural competency and working with diverse populations.

Typical Physical Requirements:

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity and eye hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computers, telephones, calculators, and copiers. Move and lift light objects up to 25 pounds such as mail, supplies, files, and equipment.
