Job Summary:

We are seeing a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Tax Manager to join our organization. This position will be a critical management position that leads the organization's efforts to consistently achieve the tax compliance objectives. To be successful, this position will need to partner with both internal and external resources, both those that specialize in taxation matters and those that contribute value to the tax processes with information and knowledge essential to successful compliance. The job duties will include diverse tax responsibilities that include both preparing and reviewing the major tax-related deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review quarterly corporate federal, state, and potentially foreign income tax provisions for financial reporting purposes in accordance with the relevant standards, including US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) ASC 740 and Statement of Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAP) No. 101.
  • Prepare and review estimated quarterly and full-year federal, state, and foreign income tax projections, including coordination with accounting and treasury functions related to tax estimates and tax cash distributions.
  • Manage the preparation and filing process for all federal, state, and foreign income tax returns, including data collection, tax workpaper preparation, etc., with external tax advisors / specialists.
  • Review and prepare, where applicable, federal, state and foreign income tax returns for compliance with consolidated, combined, and separate filings for both subchapter C and S corporate entities, as well as partnership entities.
  • Drive transformation within the tax processes, and design; develop the tax department within the organization
  • Research, analyze, and effectively document complex tax (federal, state, foreign, and local) technical issues. Communicate conclusions and opportunities, if any, effectively with internal and external constituents.
  • Oversee and manage various other tax related work streams (indirect tax compliance, transfer pricing compliance, S Corp status compliance, etc.)
  • Collaborate across business segments and departments, including accounting, finance, human resources, and legal, on tax-related matters (such as tax planning, premium taxes, sales/use taxes, indirect/VAT, ad valorem, escheatment, payroll, etc.)
  • Respond to notices, assessments, audits, information document requests, etc. from various tax authorities.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with 5+ years of public accounting or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrate a high knowledge of income tax accounting, corporate and partnership tax compliance, and state taxation, including apportionment, nexus, multi-state tax compliance, and PTE elections
  • Demonstrate a baseline knowledge of foreign tax challenges and associated compliance
  • Highly self-driven with strong leadership and personnel management skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Life insurance or railcar industry familiarity / experience a plus, but not required

Education Qualifications:

  • 4-year college degree
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
