Job DescriptionDescription:

Ascentec Engineering is hiring a Sustaining Engineer to support and enhance our manufacturing operations. In this role, you will focus on improving processes, resolving technical issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across our production systems. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and contribute to maintaining the performance, documentation, and scalability of our legacy and volume production lines. Your work will directly impact product quality, operational efficiency, and team success.


This position is onsite at our Tualatin, Oregon headquarters and not eligible for Visa sponsorship or transfer of Visa sponsorship.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Production Support: Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and drive root cause analysis to ensure minimal downtime and sustained product integrity.
  • Process Optimization: Analyze current manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement, implementing solutions that enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in Lean, Six Sigma, and cost-reduction projects aimed at enhancing quality and operational efficiency.
  • Technical Documentation: Create and maintain visual work instructions, engineering change orders (ECOs), and other process-related documentation to support production compliance and traceability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with production, quality, supply chain, and design teams to address operational challenges and integrate process updates.
  • Tooling and Fixturing: Support the development, evaluation, and rollout of tooling and fixturing solutions, including feedback on trials and implementation.
  • Team Participation: Represent Sustaining Engineering in daily meetings, improvement events, and team huddles, and contribute to mentoring efforts within the department.

Qualifications:


Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.


Experience:

  • One or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on sustaining engineering or process improvement.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks); familiarity with CAM tools such as MasterCAM or Siemens NX is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and the ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Exposure to statistical process controls (SPC) tools (e.g., PiWeb, Minitab).
  • Basic to moderate understanding of ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Epicor)

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing improvements.
