This is a full-time, on-site role for a Police Officer located in Fort Mill, SC. As a Police Officer with FMPD, you will be entrusted with the protection of life and property, and the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol Fort Mill to detect, deter, and respond to crime and traffic violations.
- Answer calls for service, including but not limited to: domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, lost or missing persons, traffic collisions, motorist assists.
- Conduct preliminary investigations: interviewing witnesses, victims, suspects; collecting information and evidence; securing scenes.
- Apprehend, arrest, and process offenders; execute warrants and subpoenas.
- Support fellow officers and emergency response personnel as needed.
- Provide traffic control and direction; assist motorists.
- Prepare accurate and timely reports: incident, accident, arrest, etc.
- Maintain patrol vehicle, uniform, and equipment to department standards.
- Testify in court when required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of FMPD’s mission.
Skills, Knowledge and ExpertiseWhat we Expect from You (Qualifications)
- Minimum: high school diploma or equivalent; specialized law enforcement training is preferred.
- Experience: approximately 1-2 years of relevant field work, internship/apprenticeship, or equivalent combination of education/training.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain any required local/state certifications.
- Must meet the current requirements of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
- Excellent communicator; strong problem-solving skills; resilient and composed under pressure.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Work involves both indoor & outdoor duties, exposure to all weather conditions.
- Physical tasks include walking, running, bending, lifting (light to heavy), restraining persons when necessary.
- Use of a variety of law enforcement tools and equipment.
- Risk of exposure to infectious materials, life-threatening situations.
