Job Description

Responsible for all activities that occur within the manufacturing facility. The Director of Operations operates effectively as a leader with direct responsibility for manufacturing and key support process operations. The Director of Operations also leads through influence in a matrix organization in relation to additional functions that occur at the facility, such as shipping and distribution. Ultimately, the purpose of this position is to achieve continuous improvements in the areas of efficiency, quality, safety, customer service and leadership so as to deliver financial profitability for the plant.


Objective of The Position:

-Oversee manufacturing operations for a commercial baking facility.

-Lead the achievement of a zero-injury workplace.

-Responsible for all aspects of production and achieving key performance measurements related to personnel safety, quality and food safety, service, and cost, while continually improving process reliability and performance.

-Build a culture of mutual respect, teamwork, and professionalism, demonstrating active support if the Company’s values and policies.

-Extend capabilities to meet market needs and support profitable growth of the products produced by the facility.

-Build an organization that is customer focused, flexible, and has strong business acumen.

-Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.

-Take appropriate action to ensure the integrity and sustained certification of the SQF system.

-Responsible for reporting and taking any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring.

-Responsible for following and enforcing procedures outlined in the Food Safety Plan and the Food Quality Plan and any other programs that support the SQF system and other 3rd party audits.

-Responsible for ensuring compliance with all environmental health and safety regulations and ensuring sustainability.

Manufacturing Transformation Requirements:

Actively Participate in Root Cause Problem Solving techniques

Participate in daily Huddle meetings

Bring forth any opportunity for improvement

Participate in Gemba walks

Display knowledge and understanding of OEE (overall Equipment Effectiveness)

Display knowledge and understanding of SMED

Display knowledge and understanding of 5s (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, Sustaining)

Display an understanding of LSW


POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:


Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Food Science, or a technical field.

· An MBA degree would be a plus.

· 12+ years of increasingly responsible manufacturing experience, at least 5 of which must be in the food industry.

· 4+ years of direct supervisory experience.

· Demonstrated leadership around personnel safety.

· Demonstrated track record leading the improvement of operations while delivering day to day performance.

· Familiarity with the operations of all plant departments: production, quality, maintenance, materials management, controllership, etc.

· Participative management style and excellent organizational and communication skills.

· Demonstrated experience building a strong management team.

· Strong business acumen and working knowledge process control and improvement tools.
