About the Role:
An Accountant at Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rochester (CCDOR) will handle multiple tasks with deadlines and provide transparent and complete reports to management in accordance with CCDOR’s Financial Policies and GAAP. This position requires a firm grasp of general accounting theory, techniques, and practices in addition to strong computer and verbal and written communication skills. The position reports to a member of CCDOR’s Finance Department leadership team and supports members of CCDOR’s programmatic staff and leadership teams.
Individuals holding this position at CCDOR should be prompt, detail-oriented, professional, and analytical. The ability to successfully communicate complex quantitative data to decision-makers is essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares financial reports and analytics for various third party funding organizations in collaboration with programmatic leaders and staff.
- Assists with applying CCDOR’s revenue recognition policies in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”) for not-for-profit entities.
- Audits, analyzes and reconciles ledger accounts to confirm completeness and accuracy of data. Uses judgment to assess whether account balances are reasonable; examines accounting documents to ascertain that transactions are properly supported in accordance with CCDOR’s policies and procedures.
- Creates ad hoc reports as necessary to understand and explain agency financial activity.
- Prepares journal entries, when necessary, in accordance with CCDOR policies.
- Reviews program financial statements with program leadership to ensure compliance with third party funding agency contract terms and conditions.
- Follows CCDOR’s internal control policies and assists with external audits.
- Prepares reports to comply with external reporting requirements, including the preparation of midyear reporting and forecasts, cost reports, grant request information and follow up reporting, for funded programs.
- Performs financial analysis on an as needed and requested basis.
- Participates in the development and preparation of budgets for new programs and contracts.
- Prepares annual operating budgets and financial forecasts as assigned.
- Prepares assigned Finance Committee and Board of Director meeting materials. Attends Board and committee meetings as directed ;
- Provides regional financial information to the Finance Department leadership for consolidating financial statements.

Requirements:
Qualifications
Education: Minimum of bachelor’s degree in accounting. Bachelor’s degree in finance with requisite experience may be substituted at CFO discretion.
Experience:
- One (1) to three (3) years of professional accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Accounting experience must include oversight of financial statement preparation.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication skills and attention to detail required. Position requires strong Microsoft Office skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment within tight deadlines.
- Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); must be proficient in financial/accounting software. Nonprofit experience preferred.
Relevant combination of education and experience will be considered.

- Proficiency and experience with computers and computer software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft office.

- Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and a driver's record considered acceptable by agency and insurance carrier.
- Continuous use of a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle.
- Ability to travel in all weather conditions throughout the counties served.
