Position Summary

The Tax Manager is responsible for key components of the Finance Department’s daily operations, including the timely and accurate completion of all tax reporting. This role oversees accounting staff responsible for tax filings, journal entries, and financial reporting, while fostering a collaborative, respectful, and high-performing team environment. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the CFO. This is a full-time position reporting directly to the CFO.

Essential Job Functions

Leadership & Oversight

  • Supervise and direct a team of 2–3 accountants and bookkeepers, providing coaching, guidance, and performance support.
  • Create and maintain a professional, supportive, and respectful team culture within the Finance Department.

Financial Reporting

  • Oversee day-to-day financial reporting and accounting functions, including reviewing, approving, and posting journal entries.
  • Prepare and/or review components of interim and annual financial statements.
  • Review monthly bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy and completeness.

Tax Compliance

  • Oversee and coordinate all tax-related filings for the Federation, Supporting Foundations, and Charitable Trusts, including annual returns and quarterly estimates.
  • Provide support and direction for 1099 preparation and compliance.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with various financial operations projects and special assignments as requested by the CFO.
  • Serve as a resource to internal partners, trustees, and external stakeholders as needed.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of current and emerging accounting standards and tax law.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; able to interact effectively with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders.
  • Proven supervisory experience with the ability to train, coach, and motivate staff.
  • Strong decision-making ability, sound judgment, and advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to set priorities, manage deadlines, and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to learn new financial systems and databases.
  • Familiarity with ProSystem Tax is a plus.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Experience using financial and accounting systems; familiarity with Oracle NetSuite is preferred.

Certifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
