Utility Inspector (Full Time - Benefit Eligible)

Our Power Group is growing, and we are hiring Full-Time Utility Inspectors to support natural gas and underground utility construction projects in the Rochester area.
This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, solving problems in the field, and gaining hands-on experience in the utility and construction industry. Paid training is provided, and both entry-level and experienced candidates are encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Do
As a Utility Inspector, you will help ensure that underground utility construction projects are completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with project requirements.
Responsibilities include:
- Observe and document natural gas pipeline and underground utility installation activities
- Ensure work follows approved plans, specifications, and safety requirements
- Monitor contractor activities as a third-party representative of the facility owner
- Complete daily inspection reports using a company-provided iPad (photos, schedules, time, and field notes)
- Track construction quantities, materials, and as-built documentation
- Verify construction activities such as:
- Excavation and trenching
- Potholing and damage prevention
- Pipe installation and joining
- Backfill and restoration
- Maintain working knowledge of federal, local, and company compliance requirements
- Successfully complete Operator Qualification (OQ) training modules
Safety is a top priority, and all work is performed with a strong emphasis on protecting crews, infrastructure, and the public.
Work Environment
- 40–60 hours per week, typically 5–6 days per week
- Primarily field-based work outdoors
- Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions
- Travel may be required up to 50%
- Must live within 50 miles of Twin Cities, MN
This role involves physical activity including:
- Lifting up to 75 lbs
- Walking on uneven terrain
- Stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
- Working near trenches or confined spaces
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and quarterly random testing
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills
- Willingness to work daily in the Twin Cities area
Preferred Experience
- Construction or construction inspection experience
- Utility construction or pipeline project experience
- Knowledge of CFR 49 Parts 192 or 195
- Familiarity with utility mapping or as-built documentation
- Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications
- Technical degree in construction, engineering technology, or related field
- Certifications such as AWS CWI or CPWI+V
